I've got the creak pretty bad, also have the 3650 issues like not wanting to go into reverse and occassional problems shifting into second. Also the damn steering wheel shakes like a monkey on X going down the street. Only 20K on it. Taking it to the dealer when i get a day off

My 04 has been great!!!! Has about 6k on it and i have no squeaks or creaks. At about 1k miles i developed a bad creak where the dasboard and the a-pilar meet on the passenger side. Tried all kinds of things to try and cure it to no avail...Finally took it to Ford for warranty. It took them a week but what it turned out being was 2 missing welds behind the dash where the firewall meets the a-pilar. They tore out my dash completely, welded it like its supposed to be, painted it and put it all back together again. I was worried about squeaks and creaks from them tearing my dash apart but to this day(knock on wood) i have not had 1 creak or squeak from anywhere in that car. The tech who did the job told me what he found and said those robot welders miss tack welds all the time and inspectors miss finding the missing welds. He put the dash back together tighter than when he found it. This guy had a love for stangs and really did the job right for me....

The creak is very likely coming from the rack bushings. Changing the lube on them as others have mentioned in this thread should fix the problem.

I haven't had a noise from the front. I got noise in the back, but I think it's from my suspension. I don't have a whine in neutral. But my AC compressor makes a loud click when it turns on. TO me, louder than it should be.

front end noise "creaking"

My 2004 had the same exact creaking you described. Started at about 3500 miles or so.I tried the greasing the front end thing myself but it did not work.

I took it to ford and I am almost 100% sure it was the rack bushings and that there is a TSB out for this. I had it fixed and I have not had the problem since.

Also if you take it to ford make sure you demonstrate what you are hearing to them outside of their garage if the floor is painted. You will not be able to here the creaking on that type of surface. Trust me took two trips to Ford to get this problem taken care of!

Hope this helps.

My steering rack creak was fixed for now with a lot of penetrating oil. The center AC vent rattle was fixed by taking the whole pannel out, then using a rtv silicone around where the two pieces meet making sure to push it into the cracks and spaces between the two pieces. However I do have a definiate squeak that I have been trying to diagnose forever. It happens a little when driving going over a bump or something but it happens a lot more loudly when coasting at a steady speed then giving the gas a quick jab then immediately back off. I'm going to check out the "engine cradle bolts". Is that the k member or engine mounts? I'm also thinking it could be the e-brake cable on the driveshaft. Anyother good spots to look?

Well I need to listen to my fiance's 04. I've never noticed it, probably because I don't drive it that often. But I'll ask her if she hears anything.
But one thing that I've learned about buying cars is that, you never should buy the first year model of a car or the last year model of a car . The first year is usually the test bed and has recalls and problems. Not all, but some. Like the 99 Cobra . They usually iron these small problems out by the 2nd year model.
The last year model is usually overlooked alot because they are preparing for the new body style, 05. So alot of attention is not paid to the last body style. This may be the reason for the slight flaws of the 04s. Everyone is gearing up for the new. And some of the parts that the 04s use, have been in the parts bin since 99.

I hate the window regulator clunk. What can they do to fix it? Mine has been replaced twice now, on the driver's side.

No squeeks but it has gone through 2 Transmissions in 36k. 3rd gear seems to be the weak point in the 3650's. It also has had a Cyl 1,5 misfire since it was new, and Ford can't seem to figure it out.
