Guys with AFRs come in.

I went down today to talk to my machinist, and got to talking to him about a power adder on my engine. And instantly he said that it was a bad idea, and went on to tell me that becuase the coolant ports on the flat part of the head near the combustion chamber, caused a lot of blown head gaskets with forced induction. I wanted to run nitrous, but now i'm not so sure that I want to be replacing head gaskets. Anyone else have this problem, run a power adder with these heads, or heard of it before? thanks for the help guys,

Lenny

Typically head gasket blow for on reason and one reason only... detonation. This is usually from a bad tune, a tune on the edge, or bad gas... usually its a bad tune. If the tune is good, and good gas is used, there really is no reason to pop a headgasket. If you detonate then bye bye head gasktes or worse... I'm against O ringing heads and blocks, but I'm not a power adder guy. I think if you pop a head gasket something is wrong and if you contain the pressure inside the combustion chamber with an O ringed block/head, then something else will more than likely let go... ie bent rod, etc.

precisously, its all in the tune. its the biggest thing that boggles me. someone can manage to dump 4-5k into their motor but never tune it correctly and then they wonder why it runs like ****. the tune is the most important part of the modding process.

(to fruther discuss this topic)yea but seems those with the issues arent only the guys using FMU's, Im sure everyone is taking their setups to reputable tuners in their area but still seems to be a common issue...maybe in your opinion for a better tune would u suggest to spend more hours tunning it rather then a 1-2 session but put some real dyno time in to work everything out.....i dont know, what do you guys suggest? because i know lots of people try and get the best tune possible ..maybe people should run around on octane booster?

For example in my area there is about 2 really popular tuners but im sure theyre no better then the tuners found in your areas as long as it is a reputable place. Also would you say it depends on what the tuner is using to tune and how familier they are with that production such as using a Chip, or PMS or Tweecer
