what do H/C/I 5.0's usally trap in 1/4mi and has anyone had any run ins with cammed or H/C LT1's? post your mods, times, and other misc info. a lot of my friends that have 5.0's want to race me and i just wanted to know how bad i'll get my ass handed to me...LOL!! BTW my car is in the sig and im just working out the bugs on my car before i race anyone.

i have seen some 5.0 that flat out run and others that are snails at the track, most seem to run mid 14's with little to no mods and all bolt-on usually run low to mid 13's. dont really know what modded 5.0's run since im not to familiar with them. so i guess this is a school me on 5.0 tech thread.

not trying to start a FORD vs GM flame war or troll this forum. MOD's if this isnt the right forum to post this in, move it to the proper forum, THANX.

a BASIC H/C/I 5.0 will more than likely lose to a H/C lt1.

It would be a driver race consider the 5.0 could be possibly much lighter.. but the lt1 SHOULD be making more power.

IMO, you WONT get your ass handed to you UNLESS they are running someting serious (IE high compression/stroker, or H/C/I and Boost, or etc)

Thats just a general statment there..

there are guys on this form running mid/low elevens with stock heads and cam in N/A form (but those guys are rare and I sometimes believe there 1320 is close to 1000 to achieve those times.. but then again they trap high enough to do it legit so.. its hard NOT to believe at the same time)

Most Fox bodies will drop 1.2-1.6 seconds in ET with H/C/I mod! and that is with Ported E7s !! FMS B303 cam and Cobra or GT40 intakes.. the more expensive.. they have the "potential" of knocking more off!!

SOOOoooooooooo 13.80 to a 12.20 ET or a 14.40 to a 12.80 !! and they should SMOKE YA!! LOL

yeah, my bad didnt know where to post it. any way can a MOD can move it over or should i just repost.

well, one of my friends has a 5.0 with some perf. replacement heads, upper intake, ported lowers (i think) and a mild B cam(dont know 5.0 terminology). other guy has a full edelbrock package and said he ran a local 408 LS1 guy that runs high 11's@120+ on nittos but should run way lower times on slicks but the 10 bolt is the Achilles heel of the f-body. whatever the case is the 2nd guy said he lost by a carlength. dont know how much power these H/C/I packages put down or run at the track.

well i've owned both.. and so far the Z has been much more faster than the GT.. it couldnt be driver issue since i had a very experienced driver (about 20 years) in drag racing driving the GT and it did squat for times compared to the Z SPINNING.. a more series HCI such as AFR's etc.. would be faster of course.. but eh? i think it depends on the variables here.. driver, track conditions and how serious of a H/C the Z has..

so what about cammed foxes vs cammed LT1's? currently my car has just a custom grind and similar setups put down 350hp/355tq to the wheels on mild setup. there are others who go the extra mile and port the intake, extensive tuning and other details. there's a guy that puts down 370hp/350/tq cam only on another board, but that's not the usual #'s that most cam only cars put down. i would imagine that 5.0 put down similar #'s right? or is there a point where 5.0's stop making power on stock heads/intake?

the stock intake and heads are extremely restrictive on the 5 litres.

If both engines are built similarly, then the LT1 should smoke you by the numbers....since it does have more cubes. 50 extra cubes will make up for the extra weight. When you break it down more than that, it comes down to how each engine is built and then there's a billion factors. If say the 302 was a higher compression than the LT1, then it would even things out a little....etc.

85ss-coupe i have the LT1 in sig in the original post and it has higher compression 11.8cr and fully forged internals. a lot of my friends have modded 5.0's and my other friends have 383 H/C spray LT1's and we all just got our cars working so we all want to run each other. i was just wondering what might happen cuz im working out the bugs on my car. maybe next week we're going to the track and wanted to know if i'll get my ass handed to me. i guess it might be close with the cammed LT1 vs mild h/c 5.0, and well put together H/C/I will walk me a few cars......hope its not that bad! but i wanna see what my buddies with the 383's run against the built 5.0's.

dean, how much power do stangs gain over the stock components h/c/i say swapped out to some edelbrock or tfs kits? do most guys port the heads/intake or just bolt em on? us LT1 guys are limited to either stock ported heads which flow maybe in the 280in/220ex cfm but these are all out heads, or TFS, AFR, & edelbrock which dont flow more than the stockers. most aftermarket heads need extensive porting and need to be cut to get higher CR and everything adds up that route(over $1400). but in the end the aftermarket heads flow upwards of 300cfm but most go that route with solid rollers and max effort setups.

Our stock heads are absolute garbage. People make huge gains with new heads. Its easy to pic up more than 70hp at the wheels from a decent set of heads

With a good tune, and a well put together combo with high compression, a 302 can make around 310-320ish at the wheels. You can get more, but then the streetability will start to drop off a fair bit without a power adder.

On a stock 302 block their is a variety of times you can run. Alot depends on the driver. I have a budget HCI, Bcam, intake and heads off a factory explorer. I should be running high 12's.

A 302 with aluminum heads, a decent cam, and good intake, with all the supporting bolt ons, should be low 12's on slicks. My buddy has a eddy kit on his car, and on street tires runs 13.3 at 112mph, thats good for low 12's on slicks. Not sure what H/C LT1's run but a good answer for a hci car is anywhere from 11.5-13.0 on slicks, if their not on slicks then all theyll have is a mph to brag about, not an ET

Well Iam a pretty big ford guy but for this I have to go with the dark side, a LT1 h/c car would destroy a h/c/i 5.0. Another big factor is suspension, stock 5.0's are not even comparable to a LT1 car. The LT1 and LS1's have good suspension right out of the factory which is a big plus as we all know. So a stock car besides the h/c/i on both cars the LT1 would win, do alittle work on the Fox and it might be a different story. Please dont get me wrong....

id say itd be a drivers race myself. the acronym h/c/i with the 5.0 is a very broad one. theres a lot of people who use close to stock parts and say their car has h/c/i. imho, you dont have a true head cam intake until you have good aftermarket heads like trickflow, afr, edelbrock. the 4th gen fbody is heavy and the fox is a bit lighter. if the fox has been ligtened more and the driver can drive evan smith style, you risk gettin whooped. if its a h/c/i car and the guy cant drive, its a gt vert with auto etc then the fbody should win. the lt1 stock is a much hotter engine then the 5.0 ho and it has 48 cubes going for it. like previously stated they are heavy cars though. not to mention the 8.8 in the fox can take way more abuse the the 7.5 10 bolt in the fbody can.

Depends on the h/c/i and suspension under the fox. A mild h/c/i will get royally waxed by a h/c lt1. A fairly wild h/c/i with a good suspension and good drive may take you though, it all depends on your setup also. Mod for mod the lt1 will win out, the stang might get ya out of the hole with traction and suspension, but I would bet you would run em down unless hes got a nasty setup. Now a stroker based motor with a h/c/i would be a different story though. Mod for a mod, lt1s usually win out, and mod for mod with an ls1 is a no brainer.
