yeah yeah yeah another one, sorry

as you guys know, i'm selling the kb, and i am planning to go h/c/i. there is a guy offering me some eddy performer heads, tfs stage 1 cam, a ported gt40 intake, and some cash for the blower. but i have already bought a polished typhoon intake. i'm trying to decide which intake i should go with ... in other words, should i stick with the tyhpoon or go with the gt40 ...

please comment on these possible combos:

- eddy performer heads
- tfs stage 1 cam
- typhoon or "stage 3" ported cobra/gt40 intake?
- shorty unequal length headers (ceramic coated)
- stock cat/midpipe
- stock maf
- stock t/b or 75mm t/b?
- 24# or 30# injectors?
- tweecer tune

what would be, in your opinion, the "better" intake, injectors and t/b in this combo for a daily driver?

any torque and hp estimates welcome ...

Well Chris

These combos we all got really are about the optimum efficiency of how all the various parts work together.

I myself took the easy way out and just copy catted what others did and got similar results :D

That ported intake might give you a bit of an unknown

Tom certainly could verify if it has been done as it should be :nice:

Speaking of Tom ..............
Look at his excellent chart and see if that combo is on it ;)
I got a copy somewhere ........ if you need it ...........
I guess I could dig it up for you :)

Your Tweecer will give you options with inj's, mafs, and the like so that is a plus for sure

Shorty's will give a bit softer low/mid tq curve than LT's :(

Why you gonna use the 4 cat oem mid pipe

btw ... shorty's and that typhoon together might be somewhat detrimental down low :bang:

Those heads will allow enough airflow to push the stock maf/tb close to their limits, if you ask me.

yeah tom saw the other thread and said it is not truely ported. i was reading his site ... great info ... i may go with a stock ported intake if he is still doing them for $230 shipped. gotta love that nice flat torque curve, especially in the lower rpms where i spend like 98% of my time. and the price is right too.

i'm sticking with the stock cats mainly because of the money. long tubes with a matching mid-pipe (w/cats) and install would run me about $850, which i just don't have right now.

i'm going shorties so i don't have to buy a new mid-pipe.

if i do go with tom's ported stock intake, i wonder if the tfs cam is good with it?

I ran a tfs1 cam with unported gt40s and toms ported stock lower on my 94. I was really happy with that combo. It ran a 13.5 @ 102 with a 2.2-2.4 (bad is all I remember) 60ft. It felt great.

I lost the #4 cyl. shortly after that run at the track and it still put down like 238rwhp and 281rwtq with only 7 holes. When I tore down the shortblock I also found a good deal of blowby on #3 and the burn marks way down the pistons like the #4 had so that was not helping either.

I figure I can get $500 for my Thumper heads and BBK EL headers. Plus I can sell my block. All that will go a long way towards paying for new heads, so .....

Please critique this combo for a daily driver, I think you guys know my goals already ...

- 331 short block, nodular crank, forged pistons and rods
- FTI custom cam
- AFR 185 heads
- 8.5:1 compression
- Typhoon Intake
- MAC long tubes, Jet-Hot coated
- High-flow cat pipe
- 30# injectors
- 75mm BBK T/B
- LMAF
- TwEECer tune

The idea behind the 8.5:1 CR is that I can put the KB back on if I still have it, or go turbo later if I feel like it, and I can use low octane gas in the meantime.

While the low 8.5 squeeze will be good for the KB :nice:

Its gonna cost ya a bit on the NA side :notnice:

How much ... I could not say :nono:

Only because ... I really don't know :rlaugh:

About those mac ball & socket collectors .............

I think a true race header that has the old school collector which doesn't get smaller will allow for more flow.

How much of a gain that would produce I'm unsure of
and
they can be prone to blowing out the gasket :bang:

But still ... I suspect some power may be found in that area

This latest gathering of parts looks pretty good to me :D

If you are watching the dollars

Why not find a fresh oem short block and sit it underneath the KB?

Grady

Maybe I should have done more homework on the LTs before buying them, but they are jet-hot coated and the price was good, and I figured they'd be good enough for my modest goals.

RE the CR, I'm OK with not making the most power possible without the blower. Since it is my daily driver, the ability to run low octane gas is very important to me. And I figure it is easy enough to bolt on the KB later when I can no longer resist the desire for more power.

RE the short block, I found a reputable place that sells them for $1550 shipped, which seems like a great deal to me.
