H-pipe brand, does it matter?

I'll looking at off road h pipes, and I was wondering if any of you guys have used the cheap H pipes like the ones that Mustangs Unlimited sell for $125.00? BBKs new are $175, are they really that much better? I'm going to just run BBK shorties (already have those ready to go on) and probably a flowmaster cat back 40 series.

Any suggestions on the best place to order these from? I'm going to check the classifieds too.

I would imagine that as they get cheaper, you sacrifice quality of construction.

Fitment and material mostly. Some of the real cheapies I've heard you may have to "modify" to get everything to line up nice. Maybe some slag on the inside too...

More expensive ones are often stainless and will last longer.

Some of the cheaper H or X pipes tend to have ground clearance issues. I ran a Flowtech H on my old Fox and the clearance was terrible. I had an exhaust shop cut a small section out and reweld it to fit closer to the undercarriage when I had them install cats, since I couldn't even make it up the like 3" curb in front of my house without scraping. If you stick to a name brand like BBK, Mac, etc. you should be good.

i have tried flowtech o/r h and had fitment issues. then i switched to MAC. Wow what a difference. came in 3 peices and fit beutifully. couldnt ask for better fitment. only thing is that i wish it wasnt black. would have like it to be silver color to match the rest of the exhaust

Silver high temp paint cures that. The new silver high temp stuff actually looks pretty nice too...

I have a Moreflow 2-1/2 w/ cats. Fit was awesome, never touches the ground ( lowered an inch) O2 sensors are easily accessible.

I have a hard to find stainless Magnaflow catted H-pipe, it fits great and sits up higher than my old Mac H-pipe did.

if you need to pass smog, then it DOES matter, the magnaflow h and x pipes are the ONLY carb certified pieces that are legal.

My Summit H fit great, except that the passenger side is about an inch too short at the muffler.

I have a MAC x-pipe, Flowmaster catback combination and found some problems mating them up together. The angles were a bit of a mis-match.

I've found that sticking with the same manufacturers tends to give you an advantage when it comes to fit. I have BBK longtubes and a BBK off-road H-pipe. Fit was great. Went together in a snap. I also have zero under car clearance issues. I also have custom flowtubes running to flowmaster 40's and stock tailpipes. I had to get a new flowtube welded up because my exhisting one was too short, but that comes with the territory.

I suggest buying the same company's headers and h-pipe.

My car came with the Summit H and FRPP GT-40P headers and they actually fit very nicely.

I had to get cats, so I swapped in a UPR catted X. Fit ok, but they hang down terribly and the cats hit the trans crossmember.
