Hi Guys,
Well, I figured it would be nice to have a starting point before ramping up on bolt-ons--so here are my numbers:

217.2 HP @5250 rpm
261.6 Ft-Lbs @4000 rpm
11.1 Air / Fuel Mixture
(???)

He ran the test in 3rd gear, and it came out with the above. He ran it in 4th and it came out higher (something like 221 HP), but said he'll stick with the 3rd gear test since it's easier on the car and dyno. (I dunno, so I'm taking his word for it.)

I have exhaust getting put on tomorrow, gears on Friday, and various other little goodies coming in the mail. Needless to say, I'm just stoked. The only thing I couldn't figure out / understand is he said I was running pretty "rich". I'll be the first to admit I don't know what this means, and he said it could be taken care of (but I had to get to work so I couldn't hang around and get an explanation). If someone could fill me in, it would be great.

Thanks much!

rich means your using to much gas therefore giving you lower numbers not to mention it can give you worse gas milage

You should go by the 4th gear pull. Him saying a 4th gear pull is harder on the car and dyno makes no since??? Bump your timing a little and that should
help it run less rich and better. The 221 sounds right for a bone stock GT.
I dynoed at 232 with the stock ud pullies and magnaflow catback.

i cant see what he means by its harder on the dyno??

the dyno is just a couple 3500lb drums on an axle, that freely spin-while a sensor detects their speed/acceleration.

unless of course he means its harder on the dyno's brakes-since the drums are spinning faster... but hell, those things use train brakes....

Ah! O.K. Thanks for that. I'm only getting around 17 mpg right now in the city, and I was thinking that was a little low.

Ya, see, that's why I come here--I don't know crap unless I hear it from you guys first. LOL

BTW, my car is a 5-speed.

Thanks for the input, guys!

there is usually about a 15% loss of power to the rear wheels (260x.15=39.....260-39=221) so the fourth gear pull would be right on the money, I thought dyno pulls were supposed to be done in 4th gear anyway since there is less friction or something? A car with an auto usually sees about 20% loss of power from the fly to the wheels. Running rich has to do with the air/fuel ratio, I'm not sure what the car is supposed to be at but if its all stock Im not sure why it would be running rich. 17mpg in the city sounds about right.

The guy said most car companies run their cars rich for some reason or another. Also mentioned something about the color of the spark plugs (again, I had to jet off to work so I couldn't drill-down on his comments).

Got'cha on the 17 mpg. I have a friend at work who has a Diablo Predator and will ask him to do a quick tune on my car on Friday after my gears are put in (and see if the air / fuel ratio can be tinkered with too).

Whoever did it in 3rd isnt all there upstairs. You car is only in a 1:1 ratio when in 4th gear. This gives you the most accurate reading possible for your car. First dyno I had done was with my CAI and mufflers. I netted about 226hp. Gotta love drivetrain loss

Your car is making the right amount of HP. He should have done it in 4th because of the 1:1 ratio. So, if it make 22X in 4th, then it's about right. Some make more, somo less. My 03 GT bone stock made 231rwhp. 5 speed.

Maybe the dyno-dude was confused and someone had told him to do the pulls in either 3rd (1:1 ratio for automatic) or 4th (1:1 ratio for 5-speed)?? But the numbers look 'normal'. Now it's time to start modding!

Screw the other bolt-ons, if you can afford a Kenne Bell and a Magnapac setup, then just go for it. You won't be dissapointed!!! Ahhh I miss my KB GT!!

you are right with this. so he probably misunderstood who told him or something.

the reason they make the cars run rich is that you GREATLY reduce the risk of detonation. the leaner you run it the more likely you are to blow them up but the more HP you make. the 221 is about right but if you get that A/F up to mid 12's at WOT you will make quite a bit more. good luck -Kevin

Are you sure he wasn't talking about the color of your fuel injectors? I know on my car they are pink (real tough) and on my buddy's 02 GT they are orange.
