Handheld or dyno tune???

Ok so what im working with is an 04 GT 5 speed, its got a k&n intake, prof. products 75mm throttle body and a plenum, bbk long tubes, o/r X pipe and mac catback. I was wondering if i should go with something like and SCT or a diablo or take the car to a dyno shop and get it tuned?

I would get a sct handheld. That will fix your speedo when you get gears and also if you change your wheel size. Plus lots more. I don't think your mods call for a real dyno tune yet. Down the road you can get a dyno tune and they will use your handheld to tune the car. I don't know if they are any good, but americanmuscle.com works with bamachips now. I would assume they will load a tune on your sct that would be for your mods if you buy the handheld from them.

Every ones car is different b/c of enviorment and so on and so forth, if you have the cash, IMO get a dyno tune in the area you live in, I've read and seen countless amount of times people mail order tunes start to throw codes after install. Wouldn't hurt to see what kind of HPs and among other stuff you car is doing.

+1

Wait til you get the gears in and then take it for a dyno tune. Most hand helds are $300 anyways.

damn that car is sexy...

buy a hand held for now add a few more things then throw it on the dyno and do a few pulls...if the A/F is ok and you like the numbers it makes then leave it alone and save for more mods...if you think the numbers are low then save for a dyno tune and see what all they can get out of her..but before you pay for a dyno tune, make sure you have all the mods you want on you car that way you have to go back and spend more money tuning... some places charge about $150 and up an hour for dyno tuning...if your lucky thats what youll get charged...around here its 400-700 for a dyno tune :bs:

if you get a hand held buy it from AM...free tunes for life...cant beat that

I personally don't think you need a dyno tune. Your car might be making 35 more hp than it was stock, and you did all that just with intake and exhaust. Until you start doing cams, heads, supercharger, nitrous, etc, you don't really need a dyno tune. You're talking 5 hp with a dyno tune over just a handheld.

The cheapest tune around where I live (which was actually Fastlane Motorsports, a damn fine Mustang shop) is $300, plus the cost of either a handheld or chip. So you are talking about $300 for maybe 5-10 more hp. Not worth it at all to me.

Call for dyno shops around your area. For me I decided to buy the handheld for now until I get a dyno tune. Like was posted above some places will charge you for the tune plus a tuner if you don't have one, and I was looking at $500. Don't really have any extensive mods so went with the tuner and mail order tune.

I didnt realize that you had to have the hand held in the first place to get a dyno tune, its the first vehicle ive done this much too that would need to have it done so im pretty lost but as long as hand held will make it run right and shut off the CEL ill be good to go, im not trying to make huge number just want the car right.
