Engine Hard start once engine is hot?

When the car won't start, does it crank slow?

Yes it cranked slower. But I've only had the car a few months and it's always cranked kinda slow.

Tomorrow I'll be getting the battery tested at advance auto. I guess it was replaced in 2017. But I'll likely buy one anyways with at least 800 CCA. Hopefully that's the problem. This weekend I'll probably check all grounds and install the relocation TFI kit as well.

Mini Starter was factory starting back in 1992 and if the car cranks but slowly then it's the battery that can't keep up or your wiring isn't up to the task.. So my money is on the battery in your case

Update:

The Deka battery that was in the car checked out good. But it only has 580 cca.

I ended up buying a optima red top battery that has 800 cca. The car definitely cranks faster. The starter doesn't seem slow either.

I ran the car up to operating temp. Then shut the car off and restarted it about 3-4 times. It started right up.

We shall see, hopefully that was the issue. I'll have more time to drive it this weekend.

I'll keep this thread updated, thank you all for the help.

You apparently fixed your issue with a battery. The last time I had that issue it was a worn starter nose bushing.

Those clamp terminals are subject to corrosion. If you are going to put a battery in the trunk, out of sight and out of mind, I suggest absorbent glass mat (AGM), which can be mounted in any position, which you may have in that Optima, and studs with soldered terminals.

I have two such batteries in the trunk of my 65. See link at bottom.

Thanks for the information. So far the optima battery is holding up. I'll eventually put lugs on the cables with different terminal's.

I'm running a XS 925 battery. It was great when it was new now it doesn't want to turn my engine over. I have mine hidden in the spare tire well. I ended up using the battery from my daily driver and starts up with no issues.

I now need to order another mount and another xs 925 battery for more cranking amps.
