1994 5.0L GT Mustang

After about 3 or 4 tries, car starts but it takes a lot of work from the car. Car will idle fine but the car will die if I press on the gas. HOWEVER, I was able to drive it home as long as I had the car revving over 1000 RPMs. so, when I was at a stop light or sign, I had to keep it revving so it wouldn't die. If I let it idle, as soon as I put my foot on the gas pedal and pressed, it would die.

This is what has been problem solved so far:

Fuel pressure is 35psi
Mass Air Sensor is working correctly
Changed spark plugs--made no difference
Battery is working fine, connections are fine
Past 2 weeks had gotten gas at a different place. Thursday, I filled up a little at my regular gas station. Didn't make a difference....

Smelled a burning smell from the distributor rotor--coming from distributor??

Not sure if it's possible that a distributor would be causing this problem on it's own but is there anything else that I could be missing that I could check?

Thank you!!!

I was told to separate the wiring and turn the car on to see if it still runs without it. If it didn't then I would need to replace/fix the mass air condensor. If it ran, then that wasn't the problem. It still ran the same as before (with the problems).

= ( Didn't work. Replacing distributor didn't work.
Wondering if it's still the fuel pump but I would hate to buy one and then not having it solve the problem...

Has the fuel filter been changed? With the static (?) fuel pressure at 35 psi the pump seems good. If the pressure falls as you accelerate it may be a clogged filter or a failing pump. Have you cleaned the MAF sensor element as suggested earlier? Remove the sensor and just spray it well with MAF, electrical contact or non-chlorinated brake cleaner. I would also check for a vacuum leak. A vacuum line or fitting may have cracked or come off a fitting. Any of these things may cause a bog or idle issue.

Fuel filter was changed 2 summers ago. Do you think I need another one still?

the MAF sensor has been cleaned.

I'll double check for the vacuum leak.
