Hardened Pushrods?

When using a stud style roller rocker with guide plates you are supposed to use hardened pushrods. Does that mean hardened shafts also? Or just the tips? I would thinks shafts also but just want to make sure I buy the right thing. The stock ones do not seem to be hard. I took a file across one and it removed material.

Yes, you want the shafts hardened, this way if there is rubbing with the guide plates, you won't have material removed.
