I have been wanting to get my v1 hardwired for a while now. The shop I normally deal with for this stuff is closed on Sunday so I started to search the groups for a how-to install the v1. I came up with a few nice writeups and a lot of people saying its a "piece of cake" so I did what I probably shouldnt have done, and tried it myself.

One of the articles I read suggested using the windshield wiper power lead on the back of the fuse panel. So this is what I used. I unscrewed the fuse panel, turned it over, and found where the 30amp fuse wires go. There was a green wire, and, I think, a black one. I clipped onto the green one.

My question is, is the green one OK to use? Everything seems to be working, but I dont want to fry my V1.

Thanks!

ive never seen a V1,but if all it needs is a power/ground,just wire up a inline 7.5 amp fuse holder and get the power from a kew switched source in the fuse box,if you cant find one,tap off the cig lighter(as long as its not constant power)

V1 direct wiring (easy)

I just finnished this operation on my 04 Cobra.

Because I plan to upgrade to the remote diplay & control module, I decided to mount the "direct-wire pwr adapter near the console. After completing the job, I think this is probably the easiets way to get'r done without diving deep under-dash.

I pulled the glove box, the shifter boot/cover and the passenger-side pillar trim cover. This was easier than I expected. The trim clips give way wthout a whole lot of force.

On the left side of the shifter cavity there is a harness plug that has three "hot" circuits running through it. Only one of them is on the "Keyed" circuit. (I think it was white with a blue or purple line) Anyway, check with a test light to make sure that it cuts out with the ignition turned off. This is where I connected the V1 Positive power source.

There Is a great spot to mount the little black junction box on the right side of the console up under the passenger side dash. Use the adhesive velcro to stick it to the metal frame right next to the convenient grounding screw. Obviously, attach the V1 ground to that ground source. (I cut off the small ground connector in favor of a larger one that fits the screw better)

Now you will have a well hidden and accessable attaching point for both the V1 main power lead and the optional accessory plug.

Now the main powe lead looks just like your standard Rj-11 telephone cord. The owners manual even points this out as an option for custom lengths.

Plug the Rj-11 (power cord) into the "main" plug and run the wire along the A/C /heater box wiring as far to the right as you can go. You can 'thread' the wire up through the dash to where the pillar trim cover meets with the dash. You go right up the pillar, and into the headliner corner. Then you just tuck the cord up behind the headliner intil you get to where you want to mount your V1 receiver. Mine goes on the glass to the left of the RV mirror. (damn that dot matrix crap) I wish it could go above the mirror.

Then you just test everything, and snap the all the trim stuff back on and you're in business.

There's no way anyone that owns tools should pay someone to perform this! It would have been a bigger hastle to find someone I trusted to touch the wiring on my Cobra. (Very Scary)

I plan to mount the remote control module somwhere on the console where I can reach it quickly. I am thinking about yanking the coin tray and putting it there. The remote display sounds neat, but i am not sure what advantage it would give me in my car. Maybe above the tach on the guage cluster. maybe in a pillar pod? That might be cool!

Anyone out there tried this with a V1?
