Harmonic Balancer Help!

I need a new harmonic balancer and a Romac is just too expensive and I don't want to buy used off ebay or classifieds. I've had a couple bad experiences with used stuff. Basically, Is this balancer any good? Also is anything else needed to install this balancer because I remember hearing this.

i paid $60 at advance auto. it was the same brand, pioneer. i think thats the same one i got. you need a harmonic balancer puller. you can rent one or buy one at the parts store.

Bottom line is the sfi spec hb's are gonna run you more money.

The Romac is indeed sfi spec.

You can bet if you find a hb that is much less money than the Romac, it ain't gonna be sfi quality.

Pioneer makes both sfi & non sfi hb's and most peeps seem to have good things to say about them.

I have been running a Pioneer sfi spec hb for about a year and a half with no probs.

It was a snap to install and not as expensive as the Romac.

Are you sure it is the same one? Why would Summit charge almost double for the same part? I'll probably going to advanced auto today so I'll check it out. The one you got from Advanced does it have the rubber in the back like the stock peice?

I did link over to see the hb you gave.

That one, pn 872010 is for street use and is not sfi approved.

The sfi approved pn is 872030 and Summit wanted $178.00 for it.

I paid about $150 for mine so I would think you could beat Summit's price.

Do I really need one that is SFI appoved. I'm in college so that equals POOR. I don't rev higher than 6,000RPM and that one I linked is rated 6,500RPM. My car isn't that mod except for the Nitrous which I'm not going to use in the winter. It is also a 75 shot with the max I'll spray next year beign the 100 shot. Basically, can this balancer handle that? I might just go to Advanced and get their stock replacement for 60 bucks.

I will give you what I remember from the hb threads which you probably should search for more accurate info than what I'm gonna share here, lol.

I do know for sure I've seen peeps replace the stock hb with another stock hb and after two to three failures ...... they went with something better.

Seems like I remember some saying they felt the non sfi aftermarket hb's were of better quality than the stock oem Ford hb.

Not sure but, $115.00 seems kinda high for a non sfi hb but I really have not looked at them in a long time.

I would not say a sfi hb is a ... must have ... for a street car.

Is the 872030 form summit a bolton or do you need shims?

If you are asking me about the shims I have no idea.

I think I'm just going to get the stock replacement from autozone because it's only 60$ and it comes with a 1 year warranty.

If wanting to see what is out there and at relatively decent prices, check strokermotors.com website.

I am with Grady - many of the street balancers can take bursts to redline with no issues - I just would not keep the revs there or use one on a motor which spools up quickly. The mention of nitrous in your sig might be the deciding factor. I would not run a cheaper parts store unit if you make anything more than stock power. Just me.

For foxes, the non-SFI Pioneer unit is a 3021 and is a good piece. I just couldnt get one locally - some peeps can.

The PP street unit from LRS is also a nice piece (I tried to get both of these after a ton of research and was unable to, due to backordering).

SFI is cool but if you dont need it, I dont see a real need for it, ya know?

BTW, nice choice with the Pro 5.0 and Kona handle - I dig that combo.

That price looks a whole lot better than the one at Summit

For as much as they want for their non sfi hb ..............

just a little more money will get you a sfi hb

I also found this one I think this is the Pioneer one you mentioned early on Summit but this one has a picture.

The one I just posted is 130 plus 15 for shipping and then the spacer is like 20-25 with shipping so that will be like 170-175 and the Pioneer is a better Product correct? It also does not need a spacer so they are about the same price and the Pioneer has a better reputation.
