harmonic balancer problems....

so i finally got time to get my motor mounts changed today on my 95 Gt and as I get to my buddies shop the harmonic balance **** the bed..... i think its been slowly going for a while but now its completely F'd! anyway I am looking to buy a replacement and im not sure what I need. The motor is completely stock right now (302 5.0L) and I see direct replacements of 50 OZ external balance, 50 oz internal balance, 28 oz external, and 28 oz internal..... Which do I need???? You would think i would know something about these seeing that i used to make Fluidampr's at Horschel motorsports please give me some input on where to go with this..... not sure if it has anything to do with replacing a clutch and flywheel which i intend to do this winter as well.....

For fox mustangs this will be very easy task but for 94-95 cars, you will need 50oz, you need to get exact same OEM style balancer for 94-95, otherwise it is not direct fit,

Here are some examples you can use;

the 2nd one is SFI replacement, the 1st one is ford racing OEM replacement one.

thanks for in input... next question is though.... my buddy says i should get one with the timing stuff on the outside of the damper is this true? I dont know much about how these function and i want to make this as easy and painless as possible.... btw is sucks looking out the window at a very nice car i cant drive!!!!!! hahaha anyway i called autozone to see if they have the part and they do but i hate that place and would rather order an aftermarket unit...... any suggestions??

If you are looking to get the best aftermarket damper on the market give me a call. and since you used to work here you know they are completely engineered and manufactured in the USA! I now work in sales for Fluidampr, i will see what i can do to get you a good deal. give me a call at 716-592-1000. I believe you need Fluidampr part # 650221 which is the 50 oz. external balance which is 34 oz counterweight on the damper and 16oz on the flywheel. This damper comes with the timing marks engraved on the damper and is finished in a black zinc chromate. Hope this helps. Take care!

With “internally balanced” engines, the counterweights themselves handle the job of offsetting the reciprocating mass of the pistons and rods. “Externally balanced” engines, on the other hand, have additional counterweights on the flywheel and/or harmonic damper to assist the crankshaft in maintaining balance. Some engines have to be externally balanced because there isn’t enough clearance inside the crankcase to handle counterweights of sufficient size to balance the engine. This is true of engines with longer strokes and/or large displacements.

just in my point of view, there's no need to get an aftermarket balancer. your not making like loads of power ( maybe soon, not to wreck on your goals/dreams) i have a new 50oz balancer that i got from discount auto and for 2 yrs now, i dont have a problem. best thing is that the rubber ring around the balancer didnt pop out.

A quick search on here will show you the 94-95 hb's are junk

They both have timing marks on them. May be if your friend can hook you up with damper then i'll go to that route, If it's only cheaper and get quality part

But I have always used Pro-Race or PowerBond dampers(Pioneer)

Whatever you do, you will need to MAKE SURE it it direct bolt on for 94-95 V8 mustangs, Some damper will not work! and you will need to mod it. such as grinding on the water pump or something like that...

I have an SFI unit I got from TMD on ebay, it was kind of a bitch to get on and I hand to grind a real tiny bit(less than 1/4mm) of the notch out so that it would slide in cause it was such a tight fit, but it's a champ, plus no more rubber to go out. It was under $100, but that was over 6 years ago too.....
