Hey guys,

I think my HB might be giving out soon. When the car is in idle, it makes a rattling sound. Mechanics are telling me that it's my u/d pulleys but that's impossible. Another has said that it could my the water pump pulley hitting against the waterpump but that's also impossible. I'm pretty damn sure it's the HB. Any other things I should look for, to make sure that it really is the HB?

Check to see if it has a wobble to it at idle. I only say that because mine is bad right now and it wobbles pretty bad. It's definately not something you want to wait on fixing though because could cost some major $$$$$.

Itwill look like its wobbling even if its fine. There is a groove cut in it and it will look like its wobbling bad.

Check the timing, if its WAYYY off then its bad. Or feel for rubber sticking out.

why do u say it is impossible to be ur under-drive pulleys...if there is a loose bolt on one it could definitely rattle...good luck man

I've already checked the water pump pulley and it's flush on the water pump. Alternator pulley looks fine. Maybe it could be the crank shaft pulley and not the HB.

Thanks for the info. guys. I'll check the timing.

I think its more likely for the HB to go bad than a bolt come loose.

lol yeah, most likely

I have yet to replace the HB since I've had the car. I've put about 30k on it (80k on the clock).

If you have you're smog pump bypassed with a short belt it could be your tensioner. Mine bottoms out when my belt is too stretched and makes a rattling noise at idle.

It could also be the harmonic balancer smacking into the waterpump pulley, I've had this happen before.

mine busted at the track, had to get it towed home. biggest thing i learned: preventative maintenance. i always ignored the piece of rubber sticking out.

hope that's worth something to you, brotha.

I got my 95 with about 40K on the clock

I ran the oem hb until around 55K

I lost the little stocker hb right after I make quite a few 6K+ rpm third gear
blasts dialing in my final WOT af ratio

Based upon that experience ...IMHO ... RPM can kill em quick

Mine went and destroyed my entire engine, I have a thread on here about it. I would switch out the stock one asap
