harmonic balancer went out!!!

Driving home in trafic today I noticed my car would shake around 1000RPM when I got home the shaking got worse. I went in and grabbed a bite to eat then went back outside and started the car back up and it felt like a gang of football players were shaking my car!! So I looked under the car and the the balancer was seperated from the shaft!!!!

How hard is it to fix?
Is it common?
How much will it cost?

Easy fix.
Yes very common on our 94/95 gt's.
85-300 depend on brand.

my friends dad works at a wrecking yard and he could prob get me a used one. should I do that or should I just get a new one?

dont get a used one thats dumb b/c the same thing could happen 5,000 miles later and really mess your car up. Get a new one and then you wont have to worry about it.

It's not that hard to fix, but you need to get a pulley. I rented one from for free from Autozone. It cost about $150 to get a new stock balancer. Mine went out at around 60k.

after parts and loabor mine set me back 300. but I did have robert hindman from fun ford weekend mod motor class fix mine so I know it's right.

Get a Profession Products or Pioneer SFI balancer for $130 - $160. Install it and you'll never have to worry about a stock-crappy-style balancer falling apart again.
