harmonic balancer?

I bought a balancer(sfi) on the corral a couple of weeks ago and it wouldnt fit my car. It hit one of the water pumps bolts and woulnt go on far enough for the belt to line up. The pully wouldnt fit on it either, but it has 302 HO stamped on it and the bolt pattern for the pully is right. Does the fox body and sn95 have different balancers? Thanks

Yes, the '93 and earlier FOX stangs use different balancers.

I got an SFI balancer from TMD for 85 bucks shipped. It works on all 5.0s, there's only a few milimeters between the bolt and the balancer, but that's how the stock one was too.

I have read (from Brandon, et al) that sometimes on the SN cars, one has to grind the water pump bolt a little bit.

I did grind on the water pump bolt but I never could get it to go on all the way(a good 1/2 inch or more).

You don't want to ruin anything by grinding too much off of anything. The bolt shouldn't be sticking out much more than the actual water pump though? Are you sure it's hitting the bolt, or is the notch in the balancer and the key in the crank just a tiny bit off? 1mm will do it....I'd look at the notch on the inside of the balancer and see if it looks like it has any damage to it....just a thought.
