I dont know if thats such a good idea, #1 that wouldnt be very easy since your welding in a X pipe into a H pipe #2 you wont pass emissions which means youll have to buy a new mid pipe anyway. I agree with Monkie, go out and get a new o/r x, they arent that expensive.

#1 I had a friend do it and i did not agree with him saying it works great so I was getting opinions to back my claim it didn't.
#2 I plan on getting a Magnaflow catted x to stay quiet, I am on alert for mobilization is the reason I have not yet.

Couldnt you just buy an off road X pipe, then take 2 of your cats off the stock H pipe, gut them and weld them onto the cheaper O/R X and bingo more power than catted X and it looks legal...in Texas anyways.Would be alot cheaper than buying the catted X.Also,I live in a part of TX that does not do emmisions,so if I buy an O/R X,will I pass inspection in an 04 GT?

There is a guy in town that has an ex-police Crown Vic with a 4.6L and the "H-pipe with an X welded in"-thing going on. It sounds retarded.

X pipes are one of the easiest mods you can do. you need a jack, two jackstands, some typical sockets, 3/8s socket wrench, 3/8s 10 inch extension, and that's it! infact, the hardest part (for me) with an O/R pipe was getting them damn O2 sensors undone and re-done (because they're in such a weird spot, especially the ones further up). but if i did it again, i'd be able to do it in 5 min. no problems. just dont forget to disconnect your battery because the starter motor is near the passenger side downpipe, and I tapped it with the extension, (with my battery connected) and sparks hosed out all over me, scared the piss out of me. Good luck with whatever you do bro!

EDIT:

as far as being cheap:

SLP's X pipe is three peice design (2 peice for LT headers) (for shorty headers which are stock, 3 piece). The first part is the down pipes from the manifold. They come down (the downpipes are omitted in a LT header setup, obviously). Simple as that. Next, you can buy either the cats or the race pipes (or both like i did). race pipes make it offroad, cats make it legal and quiet. The third and final part is the X crossover. the three peice design is held together by clamps, which DO NOT LEAK (trust me i had someone rev while i check for leaks and tightened the clamps to ensure.)
I keep it offroad, 'till i gotta go for inspection, in which case, you un clamp the clamps, and slide the race pipes off, and slide the cats on. totally genius how they set it up.
