Has anyone CUT their smog bracket off? Updated with PIC!

Updated with pic!

I'm getting everything ready for the engine swap. I removed my smog pump a while back. While taking the accessories off the engine, I just noticed how HUGE and heavy the alternator/smog bracket is.

Running the shorter belt on my setup has worked fine over the years. So my question is... has anyone CUT their smog bracket off? Or is there an aftermarket bracket I can buy that ONLY holds the alternator?

I might as well save some weight and space if I never plan to put it back on the car right?

If there's nothing in the aftermarket world, that's CHEAP. LOL

I'll probably just cut and grind mine off as well.

Well because of my supercharger backet, I don't have that issue nor do I want to cut it, but I don't have AC anymore so I cut that bracket down just like your asking. Just another thing to help clean up the look and save a little weight.

I didn't cut it but the previous owner did. I don't see any problems with it.

Cool, thanks guys. I will probably paint it a silver color. My engine, intake, alt. are all going to be black.

Mine is very close to that. I have the actual belt number written down in my car. It varies about an inch depending on which underdrive pulleys a car has, and how many/if any.

BTW - bracket is now cut.... Going to clean it up and paint it with alumi-lite as soon as it warms back up around here.

You'll be fine. I cut mine 5 years ago b/c I didn't want to run an eliminator kit and no problems.

I run the Gates K060888 belt. It was VERY tight going on, I actually had to stretch it a bit before I could manage to get it on the car. But all the bigger sizes would all stretch a couple days later and bottom out the tensioner.
