Has anyone fused a coupe with a fastback?

Hello,

I have a low mileage '70 coupe, and a completely shot 69 fastback, I would like to section the top of the fastback onto the coupe. I definately have the talents and means to do so, but I am wandering if the frame rails are different in the rear of the coupe than the fastback.

What I would do, is cut it at the windshield posts, and take just the top and quarter skin, with the door jamb, maybe the rear filler panel that houses the tail lights. I would rather do this than go through all the hassle of replacing entire framerails/floors/trunk.

Whats the same and whats different. I am just getting into mustangs, and am not super familiar with them.
thanks

'69 and '70 should be the same car except for the front end. I dunno how different the coupe is from the fast back is though. '70 fastback is my favortie mustang ever :D :nice:

Just off the top of my little mind, the door post should be the same, I would take from the bottom of the windshield posts to the tail light panel. I don't think anything underneith will be different. The door glass will have to be swapped as well.

Thanks, its nice to be greeted!

I dont know much about mustangs other than parts, and whats worth what. I ran across a bunch of 65-71 mustangs rotting in a pasture, I started buying them up and selling them on ebay, now Im hooked :bang:

I do believe that the windshields are the same, I know the decklids are different, I think the rear of the quarters are different, maybe more room behind the tire? Thats why I am wandering if the trunk/frame rails mail be a little bit shorter on a coupe.

There are a ton of differences, it would be a major job. Doors, glass, interior panels front and rear, rear seat, carpet, decklid... I don't have an exact list but you see what I'm getting at. Just look through a National Parts Depot catalogue and see how many parts are fastback-specific.

If you really want to make this happen, you'd be better off to sell both cars and buy the fastback you want.

I dont believe that the doors are different, I know the glass is, but not the doors. Reason for me saying this, is that I took a door off of a 70 coupe, and put it on a 70 fastback, with no problem. I own both cars, so I wouldnt have to buy all the interior pieces that you are talking about, I am no stranger to a little bit of work, and I am not scared of doing this.
We own a body shop, and have the facilities to do so. I kind of like the idea too.

This reminds me of a story.I used to date a girl with a 69 fastback. Her brother did bodywork for people and was fixing a 69 coupe that had been rear ended. My girlfriends fastback was parked out front the day the customer came to get his car and since both cars were the same color the guy thought that my girlfriends car was his and they had converted his car to a fastback.
