Has anyone mounted either of these mirrors on a 65-66?

Hey,
Have any of you mounted either of these mirrors? I originally wanted to run the r-model style (aluminum, I've heard them called Eleanor or R-model or Ray dots) but:
1. I would have to remove the door panel to adjust them (nut on the bottom)???!?!? I figured I could put a rivnut in the door, cut a hole in the bottom of the mirror (so i could get at the bolt head from inside the mirror) and use a bolt from inside the mirror, instead of the carraige bolt.
2. The base is about 1.5" dia and flat. Has anyone had any luck shaping the base to fit the contour of the door?

Has anyone had any problems fitting the second stlye (talbot Jr replicas)?

I now own both and need to choose. Yes I've tried searching and no luck, so any help is appreciated. I hope I post the pics right.

personally i prefer the talbot style mirrors on early mustangs. i am planning on installing a set on both my mustang and my falcon.

I had the Talbot Jr. mirrors on my '65, but they really limited your side view field of vision. I ended up taking them off and putting the stock mirrors back on.

I recommend you use the convex mirrors if you're mounting the Raydots.
And please, never call them Eleanor mirrors again

Good idea with the aluminum spacer Dave! And I understand your comment, and agree, about calling them Eleanor mirrors but that is what some vendors call them and I wasn't able to post a picture of them (what am I doing wrong?). Sorry, won't happen again.
Do you still have to remove the door panel to access the nut to adjust the mirror? To get around this I was thinking of using a bolt from inside the mirror body and putting a riv nut into the door. Who sells the convex version?

I tightened the nut enough that I can adjust them slightly without removing the panel.

These guys sell the convex mirror. I would think others do as well.

I also have the Raydots on both sides. I spent a little time adjusting them when I put them in and haven't had to mess with them since.

I worked the metal base to fit the contour of the door. Wish I would have thought about making the alum base. Good job Dave!!
