Has anyone ported Edlebrock Performer heads

I am looking for flow numbers on these heads. If anyone has ported them with what stage did you port them. How much power can be gain by porting these heads. I know that there are better heads out there, but I don't have the money for a new set of heads. so I have to work with what I got.

Honestly I would just have some one do some bowl work on them & throw in some 2.02 valves. The port volumes are more than adequate to flow pretty well they just need some bowl/seat work with the larger valves. I spoke to Ed Curtis about my heads (performers with 2.02's installed) & the first thing he told me was he liked the edelbrocks but really need 2.02's to flow some good numbers.

The springs are the same on the performer & the performer RPM heads so it's really a matter of having some one cut the seats & you can swap the valves yourself.

Now when you did that, did you have any problems with the stock pistons hitting the pistons. I am running 1.7s rockers with a b303 cam. So I am a little concerend about them hitting and bending the new valves If I do that.

Then the new setup I will be runing next year will have these pistons so I have to be careful on what happens.

Well those new pistons will have no issues but with the stock replacement type pistons I currently have I did have to fly cut them. With the clearence I have now I could run up to a .660 lift cam (cut em deeper than what I expected). Right now I'm running a .510 lift cam (.490 I think w/ 1.72's) it's a Steeda #19 (220/226 @.050) with 1.72's. The only real issue was not so much the depth but the width of the relief.

I do know that your b-303 has a .480 lift with 1.6's so your lift should be right in the neighbohood of mine.I have/had some pics of the whole process somewhere if I can find them I'll post em for ya.Anyway I'd spend the money on the larger valves before I spent any money on the porting. Like I said the port volumes are the same between the two (rpm & std performer).

Well said Mike . Thats exactly what I had done to my Edel heads this last time when I had them in the shop for the machined spring seat cup install.

You know the pistons I run, so like you, lift & overlap will never be an issue for me

Hey there Boss man, I'm just wondering when I put some boost on it if I'm going to hole or shatter the pistons since I cut em so deep

Time will tell!

Hey Mike,
It's very possible. Did you ask how deep the guy notched them? and how much material is left?. That would really be the pit's to hole a piston . What is your VTPC now?. I had the pistons in my old 302 notched also, but he cut em just enough to give me .120 on the int side and .130 on the ex with the 15511 W/1.72's on it.

Well I'm the one that cut them with an Isky fly cutter. I had .250 clearence with the .510 lift so doing the math it woks out to right around .650. I'd never run a cam that big though.

As far as how much material is left? I have NO idea , but it does hold cyl pressure LoL

Holy smokes (.250). sheesh, think you have enough clearence now? ROFL.

Befor I had the notching done, I had the machinest check my VTPC with the above mentioned combo, and I had .70 Int & .85 Ex and that was WAY to close for my comfort. All I can really say is maybe PRAY? LOL. With .250 you surely did some deep azz cutting LOL. Honestly, I'd be worried just like you are now. I wish I had more accurate info for ya. You might be better off and wait on the huffer till you can get some good pistons. You've seen mine (I think) and they have the double lip for the int which i'm sure would give you all the room you could ever need. I have tons of room and my cam is quite a bit bigger (now with 12* overlap)

Well what can I say I had three day's to yank the whole motor put on new:
Pan
Timing set
Front & Rear Seals
Cam
Roller rockers
Heads
Fly cutting the pistons
I had to travel to hanover PA to get head gaskets & down to
Crofton MD to get the heads. Then after I put the cam in I figured out
I put it in 180* out thanks to Rick 91GT(meaning he figured it out for me not that it was his fault).

So when I hit it with the cutter I kinda went by memory on how the valve reliefs looked on aftermarket pistons, to make sure I had enough clearence.

I think your right about putting the huffer on these pistons, kind of akin to leaving your kids with a crack head. With the 140,000 miles that are on this motor now I'd have to do a rebuild(not in the budget) & seriously doubt I'd get away with honing it & tossing in new pistons.

Mike, you sure did alot for just 3 days, My hats off to ya . Glad to see Rick caught that slight mistake, but then we ALL make mistakes, especially when time is not on our side. I think you're making the right decision in holding off. No sense in huffing it at this point. Just enjoy what you have now till funds allow you to re-build it the right way.
