I love the sound of my car, 1994 GT, but I need to put something that looks like cats on it, so it will pass inspection. The guy that used to pass it, will not pass it anymore due to getting busted a while back for illegal inspections.

Has anyone tried these cheap high flow cats? ( 400 holes per square inch ) I ordered them today. The reason that I chose the Thunderbolt cats is that I will install them in my BBK off road H-Pipe, and I only have 11.5 inches of straight pipe area to work with. I can't install anything longer. My H-pipe diameter is 2.5".

410250 - 2.50" Catalytic Converter

Here are some fake ones. I was going to get them but decided on the Thunderbolt cats.

Catalytic Converter

I don't know whether to put them on straight out of the box, or gut them before I put them on. Will it have any effect on my sound or performance? I keep hearing about backpressure. Some guys say that it is a bunch of nonsense and some people swear by it. My car has been running for several years with no cats at all, and there are no warning or check engine lights on at all.

I just need a visual inspection here in North Carolina. The cats don't actually have to work for them to pass inspection. They just need to be on the car and look like they are doing something.

Thanks!

Well they're certainly cheap enough. I installed these Magnaflow HIflow cats

Magnaflow 59956 Center/Center Cat 2.5" In/Out

They were about $100 each. However, they did not change the exhaust sound as far as I could tell but they definitely got rid of the stinky exhaust.

I think you should have gotten these from Thunderbolt

2.5" Thunderbolt Metallic Catalytic Converter 415250

Very close to the Magnaflows but $55 each.

I wouldn't gut them.
