Has anyone used this clutch kit?

Hi All,

I am trying to decide if I should swap my current King Cobra clutch which has about 60K on it now to this one I found on AM website RAM HDX Clutch (Mid 01-04 Mustang GT, 99-04 Cobra, and 03-04 Mach 1)

I need to open it up to swap the TOB and probably a Pilot bearings and thought i might change the clutch while it open up.

thats a decent clutch but for the money id go with centerforce.. ram chatters waay too much.. the last ram i had was quiet for about 300 miles then started chattering like crazy and anytime my foot was off the clutch it made an annoying noise..

not knocking them and the hdx is a good set up but you might have to keep the music turned up with them

I have the Ram HDX and it's been great. I went easy on it for about 700 miles to ensure it was broken in properly. Doesn't chatter and I really like the pedal feel.

I had that Ram clutch in my 01 GT and it was great,but make sure you break them in before hammering it.I went 1000 miles before breaking 3k rpm's,actually more like 2500.Had good pedal feel and didnt slip on a stock GT.

I liked it better than the stock.

Any clutch can chatter if not properly broken in.Mine never chattered for the few thousand miles I put on it,ten I traded the car for the Mach.

Defintley replace your TOB and Pilot bearing.
The Ram HDX clutch was the first clutch I replaced my stock clutch
with.After 7K this Ram HDX clutch failed on me and started slipping.
The clutch was also aligned properly and the stock Ford OEM clutch
cable was adjusted correctly too.These Ram clutches are a pile of
crap if you ask me.

I replaced that Ram clutch with a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch
and it has held up very well for 10K+ miles with no problems.
I definitley recommend getting a Centerforce clutch I love mine.

Well then go buy somewhere else then pony, also majority of clutch chatter is due to not turning the flywheel to make it true again, also improper torque for PP to flywheel bolts

I have never had a bad experiance buying stuff from them, having said that I have never had to return anything either so they be selling good quality parts.

I had the TOB replaced when my King cobra clutch was fitted around 60k ago and its going now. The clutch itself seems fine not slipping or chattering ect but It seems craze to pull the tran apart and not swap the clutch really

From my experience..replace it all.

I havent had any issues with my RAM and that includes the RAM TOB and Pilot Bearing.

Good I will then.I would rather pay more than give American Muscle my
business .Just because they are a vendor here doesn't mean I'm giving
them my business.They screwed up big time and it will be a cold day in

hey pony did you resurface the flywheel, if not theres your failure point. the ram clutchs are very touchy, if everything isnt done rite (turn the flywheel, new tob, new PB, new PP) they will not perform well and will not last long. i failed to turn the flywheel in my fox, blew the disc all to hell. turned the flywheel replaced it ALL again and bam 28k some odd miles behind a 309hp-369ft/lb of torque 306 and still performs well

Everything I installed was new including a brand new Ford OEM
flywheel and Ford flywheel bolts.
My Ram HDX clutch failed right at 7K miles.I didn't even get one
years use out of that clutch.Remember I'm not the only person how had
a bad experience with Ram clutches.You get what you pay for when it comes to clutches.My cousin how has a 92 LX his Ram clutch failed after just 5K
of use.Everything was replaced just like in my car.He told me not to get
a Ram clutch but,I didn't listen and it costed me two clutch installs.

I now have my Centerforce Dual Friction clutch and it has held up very strong even with 3-5 passes at the track once a month.
This Centerforce clutch graps hard and can hold power quite well.
The petal is pretty light very close to the stock OEM Ford clutch.
I am very happy with this clutch and I would purchase one again.
My cousin now has a Centerforce DFX clutch on his 92 LX and he
tells me all the time how much he loves it.

pony i have a 89lx 306cid, w/z-spec t-5 309hp and 349ft/lb of torque the hdx is now 1 1/2 yrs. old with about 11k hard miles along DD miles too, no problems yet. did you drive it a few hundred miles before thrashing to death. i did it and with all my other clutchs and never had any premature problems.

Few hundred mile break in? That shows what you know about clutches.
Me and my cousin break in our clutches for at least 1K miles before
any abuse. Ram clutches= poo

Yea, but there is no need to argue with someone who knows so much about clutches, but then he doesn't realize his steering rack bushings are crap and has to take it to a shop to figure it out. He really has been jumping in on threads in the past week and it is getting on my nerves too.

Like I said earlier, I havent had one issue with my RAM. Although it is a Powergrip and not the HDX, I think the HDX is much more of a better fit for your application than a Powergrip. Mine is occasionally chattery and the pedal is heavier than other clutches I have had and other ones I have tried or felt. RAM and Centerforce both make very good clutches for bolt on cars like ours. I just am planning on getting blown shortly so I needed a clutch that was capable installed back then instead of doing and install twice.
