My hatch striker bushing is long gone. I bought some replacement bushings at AZ, but I can not get the giant washer off so I can slip on a new bushing. Is there a special way to take it off? Or do you have to buy a new striker assembly?

yup what he said....don't know why ford did it that way but thats the way it is....they are only $20 though and man is it nice when the hatch closes like it's supposed to!

i just cut the bushing down the center and open it up and slide them on the bushings arent usually tall enough so i take another one and cut it in half so it keeps the big one from moving around!

I might give that a try. I already tore up the bushing box, so I can't return them might as well do something with them.

i got mine off with no problem. the washer on mine screwed off...maybe its aftermarket.
I had much the same story - put the big washer in a vise and unscrewed it from the striker bolt. Then I removed the old bushing and put the new bushing on and screwed the striker bolt back into the washer.

i am stuck with my hatch wen i hit a bump it opens (light goes on) and soemtiem going around a corner i did notice that the hatch when closed it is off to the left (drivers side) and when i push it t the left it opens the old bushing was SHOT liek exploded so i got soem fromt eh "help" and i cut it dwnt he middle put it on and it seemed liek it was to big so iv been taping it and using a rag in place as a bushing should i just buy a new striker and bushing assmbly or is it just the fact that my car is twisted mayb? i mean it was never like a high HP car so idk if it would be twisted.

red88RICK-buya new striker...most auto parts sores have them in the HELP section, if not then they can order it, i would defnately do it right, and never stuff rags anywhere in your mustang! leave that to the guys that burn oil and need to check it daily
