Thanks for the advice lazer. I have been doing some research online trying to read reviews on decks and have so far pretty much been convinced out of the f900bt. Everyone who has it says it takes anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes to start up and be completely running. I really dont want to have to switch out the map disc to mess with the nav so i kind of ruled out the d3.
Whats the deal with the upgrade for the z1 or 2 up to the three?? From what i gather you just install a new hard drive and it has the same operating system as the z3.
The other thought that i am having is my car is a daily driver, every damn day daily driver. Im concerned that a big screen in the middle of the dash would attract way to much attention. Anyone know of any good fold out units...it seems that most companies are headed towards the double din set up.
Just another thought, would it be more conspicuous to put a towel or something over the screen when parked than to just leave it?

Exactly why my car (the old 04 and the cobra) have the stock system...it works just fine for me. And why I ripped the system completely out of my talon...saves weight and my phone has a killer sound with the ear phones in so thats the plan.

I dont want to give anyone a reason to bust into my car...because there is always some nocount thief out there that will bust your window if he sees a freegin breath mint setting in the cup holder.

That sucks bro. I know the feeling. How did they get in? They drilled my lock and then pryed it with a crowbar. They did $2,200 damage to my car and stole over $3,000 of electronics (DVD flip headunit, amps, navi, ipod, guages, guage pod, SCT2 tuner, Craftsman 200 piece toolbox, and more) from my car.... in my parking deck where I used to work... that has a security guard...

Literally wires everywhere. They hack jobed the whole thing. Broke apart my dash getting the headunit out and just took the whole center console

I took it pretty hard. You seem to be in good spirits which is good.

Oh and since then I shaved the door lock and installed a Viper alarm for good measure. Keeps the pricks away

And probably due to the fact that they probably got in my car and then layed low. They were inside the whole time. They cut the rear liner to jack all the stuff out of the trunk instead of just popping the trunk and taking it.

My brother woke up one morning about 2 weeks ago got ready for work, only to come out of his apartment to find his driver window busted (he has a 1986 mustang 5.0). Everything was original in the car, so they didnt have a nice system to jack or anything, but apparently they were after TWO skateboards.......stupid, right?

Yeah, my car has been broken into twice. Once at the body shop. Ended up getting booth door windows replaces and a chunk of change for the stereo.

yeah, exactly. I love the Mach 1000 system in my GT. In dash looks like a plain Jane stock system...well, it actually is!

And everytime I consider putting a system in my Cobra, I'm constantly reminded of a buddy of mine's GT vert top getting slashed open and broken into.

A balsam is a sweet-smelling oil or resin derived from various plants. Or a sweet smelling ointment...so i dont exactly know how that would teach them a lesson... LOL

Ambo - That is pretty much what my dash looked like when they were done with it. Its funny how the lower boot part of the console looked the same as mine, just popped out. That sucks they had the time to get all of that out of your car, I think the thieves wouldve gotten more out of my car but they were spooked for some reason...thank god because my insurance only covers $1000 in audio upgrades because i didnt pay extra for it. The bastards got in what looks like the same way as your car, by stabbing a screwdriver into the door lock, i cant believe it was that easy to get in...I seem to be taking it well on the outside, but im still waaaayyy pissed about it. I more feel like i lost my sense of security than anything else, which is a ****ty feeling.

The insurance guy came today, they are giving me $1000 for a new unit, and are also fixing the door. They are also replacing the dash from where the screwdriver was pushed into it while they were prying out the center trim.

On the upside im really looking forward to a new head unit. I think im sold on buying a refurbished Pioneer avic-z1. You can upgrade the hdd to the new z3 with all the new nav maps and software for like 100 bucks.

Ive been freqenting avic411.com which has tons of info on these units. Im going to make a stealth faceplate from an old ford oem unit hollowed out to fit over the new double din...hopefully it will prevent this from happening again.

Or you could give them the bucket treatment. Hands on ankles, feet inserted into bucket of cement [quick dry of course] be sure to cover hands and ankles place offender at exit of "alternative life style" bar before leaving pull offenders pants down.
