having a hard time with wheels...

i have a 65 coupe that we'll call a project car. it's just going along VERY slowly. anyways, i don't know what kind of wheels to put on it. i'm pretty picky. i don't like the stock wheels because i want something different. i liked the torque thrusts, but then my boyfriend made a stink about that saying that everyone has them. i just want to see some pictures of 65 coupes looking good on their wheels. can you help!?

about all i can say is look through various wheel catalogs, and pick one that you like, and can afford, and dont listen to what other people tell you. the car is yours, and it should look like you want it to look. personally i like the look of the torque thrusts, regardless of the fact that they are a very popular wheel. in fact i am going to put a set on my falcon.

Try the tire rack website, they have lots of wheel / tire combinations. The other thing to consider is diameter and tire aspect ratio. Alot of folks like the big wheel short tire look, others prefer the more traditional look of 15" wheels with 60 series tires. You should also consider wheel diameter carefully if you plan serious brake upgrades in the future, big rotors and calipers may require 17" diameter wheels.

thanks...i'm definitely having a hard time. my boyfriend is already on this third mustang, and my dad is a mustang GOD as far as i'm concerned. so i've got two men throwing their two cents in, and i don't even know what i like anymore. i just don't know. but you're right, it is my car, and i need to get what i want!

I hear what everyone says about the tourque thrusts as well, but I see far more of them online than I do in person on the street. I know of only two sets I've seen on the street (not a car show) in the whole Oklahoma City Metro area and theres over a million people in this area.

It's your car, pick what you like and the heck with everyone else. One thing I will suggest, try to pick something that is timeless. Look at the past at some of the wheels that were popular, then have faded into obscurity. I remember when the sawblades came out, you saw versions of them everywhere, still do but much better looking, but the old ones just look old.

19 years?! yeah, not quite. i've had the car for a year and a half and made next to no progress on it. but it will get done, and it will be awesome! i had a set of cragers, which i wasn't totally excited about, but weren't horrible, but my dad sold them without me knowing. punk. i also have a set of magnum 500's available to me if i want them...ok, so i just searched for torque thrusts on google and a 69 camaro came up with a set of torque thrusts on it, and it totally killed it for me. back to square one! geez...

tell your boyfriend to hit the road .the torq thrust is a timeless design,if you want to be different,paint the centers,od maybe some 17" Cragar SS,IMO the "Halibrand" type wheel is really played out.

First, dump your boyfriend, I'm smarter and better looking ;-)

Second, Civics are something "everyone has" torque thrusts are "classics." If everyone has them it is for a damned good reason!

I however, also like to stray from the straight a narrow a bit. Might I suggest '04 Bullits and spacers? It's a 17" rim and I think it looks pretty nice on a classic.

Wheels, the sky is the limit! TQ's give a nice vintage look. So many factors including rim size, budget, stock or modified, personal taste, egad!!!

The halibrand style wheels like on Jay's 66 and my cobra are really cool!

68 Shelby 10-spokes are neat too..

What I would do (assuming you're good at photochopping) is take a side pic of your car, find pics of different kinds of wheels and use a photo editing software to paste them onto your car. Then pick what you like - it's your car afterall.

And FWIW, I was the same way about torq thrusts. Yes, they look damn good, but everyone has them. So what I'm going to do is go ahead and get some, but paint the spokes (normally medium grey) either dark grey or black. That way I'll still have some wheels that look great on mustangs, but they'll be just a little different than everyone else.

yeah, well thanks for all the offers, but i think i'll keep my boyfriend around. : ) besides, he's a stangnet member too, and just found out that i have an account. haha. hi dillon. : ) anyways, i just don't like the torque thrust II's. the chrome bling bling ones that everyone has. (no offense if you guys have them!) but i do like the d's, and i also like the idea of painting them. is anyone here good at photoshopping? i'd like to see those '04 bullitts on a 65...

so im the boyfriend, and yes i am a little bit influential, but i dont think im bad enough to be gotten rid of. sorry fellas, the i think i might have ya beat on the better looking, maturity, and tool areas. after all, i am dating her plus, ive got some pretty sick cars. i just want her car to be as original as her, and you gotta admit...almost every young girl with a mustang has a 65-6 coupe with stripes and torq thrusts. kinda played out. now for the guys out there...hot hott would it be to see a good looking chick in a classic trans am style small block 4 speed beefy ass looking 65-6 coupe? yeah, thats what i thought :SNSign: i love you babe
