HCI Install Question.

I have my motor partially stripped down now. Next off are the accessories, headers, then the heads (intake is off).

So I would like any suggestions you might have on dealing with the accessories. Like, is there any way to get around pulling the power steering pulley? Can I pull the power steering and AC compressor aside as one unit by just removing them at the bracket? Any other suggestions for dealing with this side of the engine? And what about the alternator, balancer, water pump? I am pretty sure all that needs to come of too.

I haven't done it myslef but when my Bid tore down his 94 for H/C/I a couple years back he had to do it all. I know because I was there to help put it all back together...

I think he had rented the PS pulley puller at the local parts store...

there is no way around taking off the PS pulley. I tried all possible ways.

There is a bolt that holds the bracket to the head behind the PS pump. The bolts that hold the PS pump on the bracket are too long and hit the pulley before they come out.

Faster and eaiser to get the puller and be done.

The power steering and a/c can stay on the actual bracket, and the bracket can come off and be swung out of the way. But you must take the power steering pulley off. The balancer of course has to come off too. Sears (and other parts stores) sells a balancer puller for $20. I ended up buying it, because I have no doubt I will be switching out cams in the future again.

The puller for the ps & hb can be borrowed from your local auto parts store. A lot of them have you put up a deposit and when you return the tool, your get your full deposit back.

Each application takes a different puller, btw.

If you want to buy the pullers they are not expensive if you shop around.

I've seen some say they got the ps off without removing the pulley but you have to work at it a good bit. I've not tried it but I can see how you could do it. If you got the correct puller, its really no big deal and it would seem to me that removing the pulley would be the least amount of work.
