Hey guys I may have found my problem. Can you help me out?

a) Are these heads stud mount or pedestal? Notice how the rocker arms mount... Then look at the x303 heads which have 16 distinct little pedestals. The number of my heads: M-6049-X305

b) These are my rocker arms- Are they supposed to work? cos they aren't! FMS-M-6564-B351

c) Do I need guide plates to use these or do i need different rocker arms and guide plates?

Problem:
These heads I ordered were SUPPOSED to be pedestal mount heads but it was 3 years ago and don't remember. The instructions simply say "bolt on rocker arms" and don't tell. I've seen pics of these heads sold with little pedestals but these don't have them. The pic under "A)" is what I have. They do not look like the stock heads. I think these are stud mount heads. Look at these- I do NOT have these: Ford Racing Performance Parts [M-6049-X305*]

Everytime I bolt these down to 18 lbs they make the valve train stick!!!!

They say "bolt on" which means a ped style rocker. Ped rockers also use the small 5/16" bolts, where a Stud mount has a 7/16"bolt/thread it appears they are bolt on.....

Are you sure your adjusting them correctly, you can't just bolt them down, you have to go in the correct order??

Yea I did. I went thru the firing order. On each one I waited for the exhaust valve to open then I did the intake rocker. When the Intake opened and closed I did the exhaust rocker.

I put a shim in if it took more than one full turn to get to 18lbs.

18lbs is WAY too tight for those. There is just absolutely no way that 18lbs is going to work. The car won't crank over unless the things are loose and floating.

Am I doing this wrong???

Just talked to the Ford Racing Tech Support and the guy said that it's perfectly normal to get 0 compression for a bit and for the car to run eratic for a 40 seconds or so.

He said the lifters haven't been overcome by the spring pressure yet and the oil hasn't been pushed out of them. He said if you can get it cranked and let it idle rough for a minute that it should sort itself out.

I'll give her a go! :nice:

I'm almost sure we tried that but he said you have to get the car to turn over.
