Head Q's: Have 351W heads, Compare to Aftermarket Heads...

My dad is a Ford collector so to speak, and we have several engines lying around. Right now I have a 5.0 from an old Cobra that I am going to put in my car. Heads wise, should I look into buying Twisted Wedges, or use some 351 W heads I already have (freebies)? I could also get alot of work done to them. What do you think?

BTW when I say Twisted Wedges, I basically mean any head you can buy i.e. AFR 165's etc...

I will toss these up for ref. GT40 iron heads off a 95 cobra, Thumper style (for the 3 or 4 members that missed my pic post). IF the head is a late model (assum. there off a truck and not a 93-95 "L") they should be E7 heads. If they are old casting (ecept boss, cleavland 2venturi or 4venturi) they are more than likly not as good as new castings and designs have made a huge diff. and even the larger boss,2v,4v heads need a good motor with alot of stroke to make anykind of streetable power from what I have read and talked to at our local track.

proted gt40 heads..........

on the face (area were the brackets go) there will be 3 vert. lines on the inside (intake side of head) corner of the head these are part of the casting marks gt40(non-P) heads the P heads have 2 lines, also there is a GT cast into one of the far corners (ouside of vavle cover area) the other side just has numbers, and one cast GT in the oil vally area. there would be a gt40 intake if its a cobra long block w/intake. the shortblocks were the same as the GT cept for cam.

yes cleavland heads need some moding to work though, and the 4v will need some stroke to work well on the street since the runners are so friggin huge. I was talking to a local guy at GIR (track here in STL, where WFC is) and he was running a 4v headed motor in a fox. We were talking to him about how they worked and he said the only way to get the use out of the runners is to stroke the motor to about 393+

they will if you do some pluggin and stuff I had a article on how to do it.
Would the valves clear the stock pistons? Aren't Cleveland heads a canted valve design? If so, how would you run the pushrods off of the lifter?

I'm not being a jerk. If I come across that way, I apologize. I'm just curious. :D

I have a thing that tells how somewhere, if I can dig it out/find it I will post all the info. As far as pushrods and stuff, good question I guess since the cam is still inside the lifter valley the diff. would be in lenght of pushrod/ and angel of pushrod on lifter (as they do sit in some kind of ball/socket setup) dont realy know how that would effect things (prob. a issue with longevity/parts life). But I realy dont know, just saying what I have read that it is possible to use "C" heads on a "W" motor and vice versa.

I too think it would be alot of work and unknown's when there are so many heads avail. that are better suited for "W" use and have a higher degree of modern tech. and R&D in them.
