Okay I am wondering how much power gained and I guess overall potential of the gt40 heads. Also what heads are avaliable for cheap. Long term I want a 347 with afr 205's and numerous upgrader. The pending question is that I am wondering if it is worth my time to buy gt40's for now to get more fun out of the ride until the long term goal is attainable.
I just wonder how much power can be gained from gt40 heads, I can get them for 3-400 bucks and if I get 50 horse or whatever it might be worth it to me for now ya know, with a cam, also what cam head pairing would be good? I currently have full intake, elderbrok preformer intake, 75mm throttle body, bbk long tube headers, full h-pipe and 40 series mufflers. Any input would be good I am on a slight learning curve!

as far as being a cheap and effective power to price option the GT-40's are great. and a ford E or F cam should be good for it. but there is a broad selection of cams to choose from. the alphabet cams can be had pretty cheap though and are real easy to find. and i dont know about 50 HP but they considering the intake you have you should see a noticable difference. hope this is what you wanted to hear. if you want any thing else just let us know.

you will see a slight improvement in performance. but if it was me. i would put the money in a set of gears. you'll have way more fun with a set of 4.10's than you will gt40's. and you can keep on saving for you afr205's.

How about overall drivability? I have a set of GT40s in my basement with an Edelbrock Performer to keep it company. I was planning on keeping my stock cam and 1.72RR in order to maintain the smooth idle and street manners. What will be the case if I upgrade to one of the alphabet cams?

a little more power and complete everyday drivabilty. those cams i recomended above are very mild mannered. with a E you wont even be able to hardly tell the difference in sound or idle quality. there are better cams out there but cost alot more $$.

the cams all have different profiles. which means different durations and lifts. HERE is a page showing all the profiles for all ford cams. each cam makes its own unique HP/TQ at different rpm's. selecting a cam depends on how you drive your car and where you want it to make the most power. There are abunch of factors in how a cam will perform for your suiting. if you could describe how and where you want to make the power i might can help you make a decision on what cam to chose. and im not saying the ford cams are the best choice but they are more than likely the cheapest and easiest to find.

Ford Racing has a fairly detailed description on what their cams do. I think 5.0 drivers lean toward the E or B cam to maintain streetability, F,X & Z are more strip or specific application oriented. Of course if you do not have the throttle and exhaust upgraded, and the car in excellent running condition, an upgraded cam will degrade performance.

thats about as close to a double post as you can get.

If anything, I provided additional information.

You said: Cams do different things, tell me what you want to do and I'll tell you a good cam.

I said: Here's a site that details what each cam does, these ones tend to be for streetability, those ones tend to be more for the strip. And for anyone that reads this thread if you haven't done some other mods first it would be pointless to get a cam.

Sorry I didn't know you had post exclusivety on this thread, my bad
