Head Unit with 2 or 4 volt pre-amps/preouts? Which is better for stock Mach 460?

I've been trying to decide on an aftermarket head unit to use with the stock mach 460 speakers and amps in my 2000 v6. I plan on using the Metra 70-5510 harness and the HU's pre-amps / preouts.

Does it matter if the pre-amps are 2 or 4 volts? I've read that the volume might be too low with 2v and anything over 4 could damage the stock amps. I don't think you can adjust the gain (sensitivity) on the factory amps. Are there differences in sound quality or volume? This will be my first install so I want everything to go well.

Does anyone have any experience either way? Any input would be appreciated.

I would say to go with the 4v. Yes, there is a definate difference between the 2 and 4v outputs. I believe you have the 3 amp setup in the '00s which would mean you could use the 4v to feed the factory amps and just keep an ear out for distortion. If you notice distortion, turn the volume down. The 4v rating is a peak rating and unless you max out your volume and play a loud musical passage, chances are good that you will not overdrive the factory amps inputs. However the key to avoiding damage here is not allowing the system to distort. (that applys to both stock and aftermarket systems)
