I was trying to get my headers off, and I could not for the life of me get the nuts connecting the headers to the midpipe off, they were rusted solid.

So I took a propane torch and heated the $hit out of them and took my big a$$ torque wrench to them.

They both snapped off.

Is this normal?

Well I don't know if rust is a big issue for you guys way up north east. For us out west it is not. Mine came off without too much hassle. Gotta love having to get new bolts

It happens some time

Heat makes them brittle

No Biggie

If they give me any trouble at all

I don't hose around with them for one second

I just turn the dial to max on my big air ratchet and snap em

My stock headers one of them broke. I was swapping on some headers anyway so didnt even bother with them. You can remove the broken studs and replace them with bolts.

I have a bud in Mi. with 4 stangs and he snaps them often too. It drives him nuts that I (in the desert) have no issues removing mine. I remind him that in Seattle and Alaska, this was not so, and I was in the same boat.

As said, just get new studs or bolts or whatever makes sense.

Good luck.

Did you spray the bolts with any lube prior to heating them? When i put on my o/r H pipe the bolts were rusty. These were 11 year old rusty bolts. We just sprayed the hell out of them with WD-40 and went to work.

Yeah that`s common.
You need something hotter than propane to heat them up like an acetylene torch or maybe propane with the oxygen tank.

Use antiseize on the new studs.

Impact wrench. Only half as likely to break bolts and studs...

PB Blaster works better than WD. its very common for exhaust bolts to rust.

Mine were/are original and rusty, but they came off with a rachet when my car suddenly became allergic to cats.
