Im going to have to change the header gaskets sometime in the near future. They are 1 5/8 (i think, been over a decade since ive put them on) and are on stock heads, do i need header gaskets that fit the header or the head? and what brand, part number, do you guys recomend?

As stated above, Fel-Pro 1415 should work great.

To answer your other question, you always want the gasket to fit over the larger opening of the two parts to make sure you get a complete seal.

Over the years i've used a bunch of different ones.
Honestly, for most people's use they all pretty much do the job.
IMO, most header gasket failure is because the headers themselves aren't flat, or installation error.
