Header install....

I'll be installing my headers in tonight. So....just make sure the engine is stone cold? How about torquing the headers down. They're the BBK so it's a plate to the header surface. Do I go from the inside out? Also how much torque?

i never torqued any just used a double wrech. then start the car let it get hot and double it again when its hot. easy way is to get all bolts in before u start

You go from the outside in, start with the putter bolts and work your way in, tighten them down as much as you can but obviously you don't want to over torque them,and then after you've driven it a few days, go back and tighten them down again

Yup, i've had to retighten my BBK headers many times.

Invest in locking header bolts.

I also go from inside out when i tighten my bolts down

I used the toque specs from my chiltons manual. i think its like 20 ft pounds. That and i installed stage 8 locking header bolts. Torque them once and you never have to do it again. Best 40 bucks ever spent.

ah.....good idea on the locking header bolts. I'll look into that for the future!! Yeah going from inside out seems logical. Thanks peeps!

Re:headers install

I recently put BBK shorty individual length headers in my 89 5.0L had to lift engine to fit them in and then also replace the engine mounts , old ones were just to sacked out to provide proper clearance for the header pipes.With that done they fit beautifully with decent clearance all round.The passenger side is a bit close to the strut tower but ok.They do get hot and smoke for a lil bit as well as the X-pipe, seems to be normal from other posts ive read.I had problems routing my smog pump hoses on passenger side and had to rotate them to clear the pipes.( i need to pass emissions where i live so had to keep it all in till testing) Just thought id add that it may be useless info to you tho P).Good luck with install the BBK's look sweet and are well worth the time,$ and effort IMO.

Good info to know. Yeah I'll be deleting my smog stuff so I won't have to worry about all that!
