Hey guys my stock struts are blown out and all I hear is bang bang bang when I hit a crack in the road. The only Strut/shock id go with is the tokico illuminas for 425 off ebay but then I think hmm those bastards in the EVO's and STI's are side by side with me and I "need" headers to win. Also If I do the headers Ill want to do a clutch as well. 55k.

Thanks.:SNSign:

your question is "headers or shock/struts?" right?

definitely get the shocks and struts if your old ones are dead.

gah...ok, its just they are so $$...and I really really really want to do headers and think "well ok I can put up with the sloppy suspension for another 6 months" so I can get long tubes but if I do long tubes Ill want to do the motor mounts and clutch at the same time. sigh. I wish I was richer.

IF your car is making noise when your going over bumps, like you stated, I would check your torque box first BEFORE dishout $$ on shocks.
TQ box cracking is somewhat common issue in our car. And if that is the case, no amount of new shocks or struts gonna fix the noise. And its easy to fix...

EDIT - But then i notice that you have sportline, and no new shocks are listed. So may be shocks have gone south...

don't waste your breath or money on something useless

sportlines probably did do it like Mity said, you should fix your problems first before you plan on racing against other cars

ahh, didn't notice you have the Sportline springs. well, in that case, you might want to step up to BILSTEIN for around $100 more. the Illuminas are the same as the HP series, other than it's adjustable. I used to have the tokico HP's and they suck. i really think you should get some good shocks/struts now and then save up for the headers. Since you already have the Bassani X-pipe, you might want to look at the Bassani Mid-length headers because it'll match your x-pipe perfectly with no cut/welding necessary.

i think the statement above is good advice, but i'm going to go ahead and give you some bad advice also. here goes:

you stated the price of the illuminas as being $425 so i'm going to assume that your budget is $500 max. with that much money, you could get the Tokico HP on ebay for $250 and a pair of Flowtech or Hedman long tube headers at summitracing for $240. that's the only way you could have your cake and eat it too, even though the cake won't taste so good. (HP's tend to fail prematurely when car is lowered; Hedman/Flowtech are notorious for leaking)

Struts are not in the same class as headers price-wise...

Struts are super easy to install and cost $100-400.

Headers are a PITA and can cost up to $1200+
