Quick question.
Is a cat back exhaust useless without headers and H pipe?

I want a cat back but might wait on headers and H pipe.

Thanks

No you can get the sound you like right away. My understanding is that the Cats are the main restriction. Shorties are debatable but long tube(big PITA especially in AT cars)definitely help. Hopefully you don't have to worry about emissions testing otherwise your choices are somewhat limited.

Okay awesome. A friend of the family who works for Ford is going to do Long Tubes for me in the future but for right now I just want to do a Cat Back and a catless H Pipe (if thats even possible). No emissions testing in MI....yet

Yes it is called an off road pipe, again available everywhere. I believe you will need MIL Eliminators to turn off the CEL from losing the back two O2 Sensors after the Cats. It will sound better without the cats too.

Definitely do the cat back. I’d wait on the midpipe. The best time to do a midpipe is when you do the headers so that they match. If you do them separately you are going to have to cut your midpipe to custom fit it to your long tubes. Better to buy a midpipe that is already the right length to your headers and do the install once with no custom cutting.

Since you have a 98 you will need the MIL eliminators for your car. If you do a midpipe now you will need to decide if you want to swap it out later if you get longtubes. The midpipe for long tubes is shorter than the standard midpipe. You can do shorty headers and still use the standard midpipe...the HP difference between long tubes and shorties is about 15HP if I remember correctly. Longtubes hang down a little too so dragging them on bad roads or speed bumps becomes and issue.
