Headers - Which ones to go with?

well, my 00 GT 5-speed is in the shop awaiting a heart transplant (spun a bearing on the dyno). i figured while the motor is being put back together, i might as well save myself on some labor and have longtubes put on it.... which brand should i go with and why?

JBA gets my vote. Top notch quality and performance. There is no way you could be dissapointed with JBA.

:Word: if money isnt an isssue, Kooks all the way. Top of the line quality, and you dont have to remove them for tranny access. Keep in mind they dont come ceramic coated, so you would have tp pay extra for that.

If not Kooks, then BBK ceramic is probably the best bang for your buck. You dont have the accessability to the tranny with BBK,s like you do with Hooker/Flowtech, but you also wont have to worry about exhaust leak issues with BBK's. Hooker/Flowtech uses a slip fit design at their collector. While I know that there are a lot of people using them without leaking issues, I know there are a lot that do have exhaust leak problems. I dont want to take that chance.

SLP is great quality and ceramic coated to boot. But, you have to use their X-pipe with their headers and you also dont have the tranny accessability you do with Kooks.

JBA makes some awesome titanium coated mid-lengths for our cars, but they are more expensive than most longtubes. they dont make LT's for 96-04's

i had pace setter for a while but i got those because on was on a tight budget and they were not very expensive plus i got a o/r x pipe for like 100 bucks with it.

but if i had to do it all over again i would have gotten kooks

I have KOOKS 3/4 length 4.6L TBird headers. Very high quality pieces. I will be going with KOOKS LTs when I do them on my 05 GT.

I love my SLP LT's.. wouldn't trade them for anything

why do I like my SLP? well sure I have to do extra work to install a clutch (drop the passenger header) but yanno what, I was very happy with my dyno numbers, I'm happy with the quality and I'm still happy with the quality almost a YEAR after the install. I also love SLP's O/R x-pipe, doesn't sound too raspy and i could always add cats if i see fit.

Another vote for the Kooks. I've got them on my Cat and although they cost me a mint, they seem to be well worth it. Solidly built, smooth bends, excellent fit and finish, a REAL Jet hot coating, thick flanges and no hassle.

03gt, when you do dyno remember that about 8rwhp of whatever you gain will be from the h pipe. the rest will be from the l/t.

i also love my slp's. my mechanic said a clutch shoudnt be a problem because the collectors are not as large as some of the other brands allowing better access.

the tranny would be a different story.
