Last week after a car show and afterparty I started the car to drive home and when I pulled the headlight switch knob out, the whole stem came out of the switch. The lights did not come on. I could reach up and push the release button but nothing I did would get the stem to catch. I had to leave it overnight as I didn't want to drive 57 miles home with no headlights.

Has thiis happened to anyone? I have searched the forums but didn't find the same issue. I have removed th switch so I can replace and tried to get the stem back in but it won't catch. Something must have broken inside.

I'm going to replace the switch; I'm just curious why the stem pulled out.

Never had that happen, matter of fact it was hard to get the shaft out while pushing the release button often. Just guessing that the little tang or whatever it is inside the old switch broke off or bent.
