So, uhhhh ... any crafty ways of maybe being able to get the heater core out simply open the glove box and get, ummm, a little "desperate" with a Dremel tool, slipping the new one in, and duct-taping 'er shut, by chance? I mean, you can pretty much see the heater box right when you pull the glove box open all the way, so wouldn't one (in theory) be able to just cut around that opening and slide 'er on back...? (Please, nobody scream at me for "mutilating" a Fox, because honestly, is it worth the bother on a 270k-mile car? )

I think now that I've done it before, a few hours could be shed. I took my time and made sure I labeled bolts and didn't want to break anything in the process. I think people have done the "dremel way" but something about hacking your car just to save a few hours seems pointless to me. I say just start early on a Saturday morning or something, turn the stereo on, get some lemonade or a few beers, take your time, and try to enjoy it.

But what if I enjoy the smell of friction-burnt plastic more?

My free time is precious, because I have almost ZERO throughout the week and only so much time on the weekends to get caught up on all the other crap I couldn't do Monday through Friday, so if there's any way I can avoid sitting around in my car and trying to disassemble and reassemble the thing all friggin' weekend long, I'm all in favor of it. The idea of being against hacking something that's completely out of view seems more aesthetic than logical to me. If this was a particularly rare car or something of collector value, it'd be a different story, but this is just a beat-up, high-mileage notch, in my case.

So, basically just open the glovebox, cut around the bulge, remove the retaining bolt, and slide it out...?

I'm willing to bet that there's more Foxes on the road with bypassed heater cores than functional ones.

My '88 was delivered without A/C. When I open the glove box I can see the heater core box and there is no way that I would be able to get the core out without loosening the dash. If there is a way I would love to know how.
