I'm looking for some advice from someone who has pulled the heater core out of their II. Does the entire dash board have to come out? After that, do I split the heater box in half by taking the screws out that hold it together? Any info would be appreciated...thanks!

First i re-routed the hoses into one another and then I just took the clips off of the box ( theres maybe like 10 - 15 ) and pulled the heater core out.. the inside of the heater core box was broken on mine so it sorta just pulled out but it looks that if it is intact it would be a little bit harder

If you have an a/c equipped II it would be easier to remove the complete dash shell to get the heater box removed. I replaced the heater core in my 75 coupe and my 78 Mach, both have a/c heater boxes. Once the box is removed from the car you can split the box by removing the clips, as previously mentioned, and get to the heater core. I also removed all my dash wiring with the dash shell. Once everything was out I had a chance to do some other needed repairs like the heater switch wiring and replacing the heater control assembly. I also redyed my dash pad and repainted the upper metal dash. Replaced the complete dash shell w/bezels in the coupe and repainted all the interior trim pieces. Finally got a chance to clean up all the dead bugs that were caught on the lower windshield seal and double checked everything that was apart. It's a good way to get everything squared away when the whole assembly is removed. Sounds like a lot of work but if you take your time it goes smooth. To have the job done in a shop in my area is around $250. Good luck.
