gonna be putting in a new dash this weekend. should i do the heater core while i'm in there? not sure if its ever been done before and i've never had a single problem with it. can u just inspect it while your under there or should i just replace the damn thing?

is it best to go to ford to buy the heater core or will a parts house on be ok?

For what a heater core costs I would go ahead and replace it while the dash is out. It would suck to get it all back together only to find out it was bad or have it go bad a little bit down the road.

I would stick with a Ford heater core, I have heard from some that the parts store ones are thinner and go bad sooner.

Personally I would change it while the dash was out, thats just me though. But then again if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I have had to change a heater core in every Fox I have ever owned and I always got the replacement from the dealer and never had a problem with them. But I had to change the one in my 90 about 2 yrs ago, then again last year and finally about 2 months ago. They were all Ford ones. So sadly I just spent $15 instead of $45 and got one from a parts store.

The H/C goes about evey 60K miles so if you don't know the mileage on the existing unit you might want to replace it to save the frustration later down the road.

Someone else mentioned it, but stick with an OEM part if you can find one.

The flow restrictor goes in the smal 3//8" hose that runs from the back of the lower intake to the inlet at the firewall (front of dash)

Ditto on going ahead and changing it while you've got it torn down. I had to do my core so I canned the AC evap and converted to R134 also. Now I'm guttin the carpet and seats. If you get stuck, there's lots of info in here.

Good luck
Mike
