Heater Hose Flow Direction?

I am assuming that the heater hose connection on the water pump sucks coolant, the pump pumps it into the engine block (through timing cover, etc) and then coolant flows out of the engine through the heater hose connection on the intake, as well as out the upper radiator hose. The reason I'm asking is for proper water control valve placement. It seems that it should be between the intake manifold connection and the heater core with the flow towards the heater core?
Thanx All,

Thank You Mr. 2+2,
I appreciate your confirmation and it leads to another supposition/question: On my 68, factory, in dash AC, Coupe, I'm postulating that the vacuum actuated water control valve should be between the manifold outlet and the heater core? Also, any idea as to which of the 2 side by side nipples of the heater core is supposed to be the input?
Thanks In Advance,
Gene
