Heater problem????

OK here is the deal... it is a 88 2.3L 5 speed coupe. Runs great. The water pump was making alot of noise so I changed it. Before the change had very little heat or defrost. figure the pump might help.
OK changed the pump, and the thermostat, and all the hoses, even the one that runs back over to the intake. I took an air hose and blew out the heater core. Filled everyhting back up and made sure I completely burbted the system.
Still no heat when i start it up and it idles. once i drive down the road I get luke warm air. Bad heater core????? anyone got suggestions?

This is my gas saver and drive it just about everyday to work. It is getting cold here in NC and good heat would be a blessing.

Putting in a higher temp thermostat might help. The problem is, our little 2.3's don't generate much heat. They just don't get hot! If the coolant going through the heater core isn't hot, the air that's blown over that core won't be either.

well that blows......lol.... It is a cold ride to work.... i figured it should make more heat than it does. I mean it is like none. Maybe the core is clogged and the water is coming in and going right back out. you know like a radiator does when it gets clogged up??? comes in the top, goes across the top and gets sucked back down on the oppposite side? maybe not heating the whole core... it is a pain in the ass to change to find out though...

if your 2.3 doesnt get hot there is something wrong. I am sure I could cook on mine if I wanted too. I recently changed my heater core and it wont blow any hot air until the car warms up to running temp. unfortunately this will take a long time at idle or about 10 min of driving. once that puppy heats up the heat coming from the vents is damn near unbearable

Is it possible to block the small heater line when the thermostat is put into the housing? Just a thought.

explain this, because the thermostat slides up inside of the housing. Not real familiar with the 2.3 but am learning.

there should be a hole in the side of the thermostat. this should line up with the heater line.

Did you purge all of the air from the system after you were finished refilling it? An air pocket can prevent proper coolant flow.

yeah... now i have to pull the stuff back to check that, because did not know that. what if the is no whole???? drill one?????

it's more of an openarea than a hole, but trust me it's there

i installed a remote heator core assembly ,,got it from a step van,,,just rerouted the hoses,they enter through the floorboard,,the hoses make nice hand warmers,,what car comes with that factory option,,,,,have to drive with the window half down sometimes,gets f-hot,,,have it located in front of the passenger seat will move it to the back hatch area soon,,,,,,,replace your heator core,,they clog up easy,,,both hoses should be pretty hot

oops didn't read your post right,,since you already replace the core,you probably need to bleed the air out of it a bit,,i had to rev it up a little and disconnected one hose for a couple of seconds to bleed the air

LOL, boy does this bring back memories of PAIN......... I had the same issue with my 93 back in Jan......................................... YUP still got the same issue now in DEC. Good luck and if you fix it let me know because mine is kicking my ass..... As a matter of fact I am going to play with it today.

Check the blend door & vacuum motor for the blend door. Could be the vacuum to the switches.

Our 93 is doing the same. I have figured out that the blend door is the problem after some local idiots at a parts store tried to convince me there was some valve under the coolant temperature sensor. I kept telling them no valve in that "T" piece under the sensor, but hell being female they wouldn't listen to me.

I haven't had a chance to finish trouble shooting it yet. Got to get the husband to leave it home for me to work on!
