yesterday on way to work i get strange smell of coolant... got stoped at a light so i open the door and stick my head underneath the car and its only berely dripping out so i drove it the rest way to work never got hot.... but after work i discover that its the heatercore... the lil "weephole" yea so i know what my weekend consist of :( only one question... i know i can do the heater core but the evaporitve core i think i should replace this also and i have no clue about how to change it. when i turn my a/c on it gets cold but it blows alil mist out w/ it... is that the evap core? anyone know what to do to change it?

good luck dude. just bypass the heater core. if you replace it it will take about a month before you need a new one. and no you dont have to replace the evaporator.

Bypass the heater core? Where do you live, Florida, Texas? Even when I was in FL i needed the heat early in the morning!

Replace it in a month? Why do you say that? If the stock one lasted 10-15+ years why would another only last a month?

heatercore replacement

The heater core and A/C evaporator are unrelated components and systems. They are both part of the climate control system, but other than that, they are essentially unrelated to each other. I wouldn't mess with the A/C evaporator if the A/C still works.

I beleive the heater core is factory installed before most of the dash components, so getting it out could be a serious task depending on how you want to approach it.

Check this site:

The evaporator core sits right beside the heater core in the same housing, so if you want to change it, I would while you are there since you are getting condensation. http://users2.ev1.net/~calley/Sally/heater_core/ That will tell you how to change both. Its not hard at all. And as long as you do it correctly with good parts and you use flexible gasket maker on the heater core it will last.

Don't use some cheap a** parts store parts go to the dealer.

im from southern california maybe thats why. anyhow i replaced my heater core twice in the past. the first one lasted 3 months and the last before giving up lasted only 1 month. and i do have the restrictor. you've had some pretty good luck. most people here have already been though this crap
