I'm sure all of us 5 speed drivers have had this happen to us in our Mustangs, when we engage 1st gear under normal driving conditions, the undercar shakes violently. This situation worsens the hotter the car gets.

I just bought this stang, 95 5.0, 122k miles, no idea of the last clutch change, and was wondering if someone else had this situation and what was the remedy.

Thanks for the help.

For me it was the clutch...

My car did the same thing and once I changed the clutch out it was gone...

Word of advice, start spraying the exhaust bolts with penetrating oil now...

So the clutch is the culprit, sounds good, did you change all the other components along with the clutch?

Why do you mention the exhaust bolts, and which ones? (header to block, or header to h-pipe).

Thanks.

Anyone else out there with this scenario???

I bought a new flywheel, King Cobra clutch kit, new quadrant, fire wall adjsuter, cable, starter bolts, flywheel bolts, rear main seal, the teflon lubricant for the flywheel bolts, steel bearing retainer, maybe some other stuff.. all for under $500.

Night and day difference.

AHHHHHH mine does this too and it drives me insane!!!!! Although I did a clutch change and firewall adjuster about a year ago. My problem is- the rear main seal might be leaking, even though it's new as well.

Yeah, I heard it could be the rear main seal leaking and getting oil on the contact surface of the clutch/flywheel causing the "hop" as I also call it.

When I take everything apart I make sure to change the rear seal.

Thanks for the help.

If the RMS is not leaking bad enough to drip on the ground do not change it...

The clutch could simply be at the end of it's life, if it is contaminated then this should cause slipping more so than sloppy engagement...

you might not need a new clutch, the flywheel just may need a resurfacing and that clutch chatter will go away....worked for me. God I hated that shaking!

but since you're going to be in there anyhow might as well replace the clutch and components if not done recently.
