a guy at steeda wants to trade me my afr185's for trickflow twisted wedge heads i know the 185's are too big for my stock bottom 302... i dont plan on stroking my motor....basically im wondering if this would be a good trade for my circumstances? i will be running the steeda 19 cam with 1.72 rockers, ill probably do a hundred shot later on. let me know what you thinbk? also i think i need to lose that 75mm tb and go with a 65 what do you think?

I would notch the heads and use them on your 302. The trickflows are good if you port them. I would keep them for the 100 shot. I run the twisted wedges right now and a 75mm throttle body with no problems. I wouldn't go back to a 65 why would you consider it?

I can't give you a yes or no, but I've got a buddy pulling 320+ with the TF heads, and a stage 1 cam with TF intake on a stock bottom end. I do believe the AFR's are big for your application but are great heads and leave room for upgrades, sooo it would be up to you. Do what's best for your combo and in this case, I think the TF suit your combo better.

After a **** load of research on this topic...AFR 185s are NOT too big for a 302. There's a reason they want to trade you....

if you are going to the 185s, definitely do not go down to the 65mm TB. With those heads the only way you are going to see benefits over the TFs is if you are pushing more airflow. This means an RPMII or higher intake, #30 + injectors, new headers (LTs are preferable) and an 80mm + MAF.

If you can afford it, spend another $1000-1500 on the valvetrain and you'll be pushing 6700 rpm and probably making 335+ RWHP

edit: saw that you already had the MAF, intake and headers. Work on the valvetrain and you'll leave those Trickflows in the dust.

the reason he wants to trade is because he has a 347 stroker.... and the tf are too small....the reason for the smaller tb is because steeda says the 75 is too big...

The whole TB issue is another story. 65mm can be just right on a mild h/c/i like the gt40 heads, but in your case I would recommend a 70mm. If TMOSS chimes in, he'll give you all the numbers.

Match the TB to the size of the opening in your intake. If its a 75mm opening then a 75mm tbody is fine.

Whats the condition +specs (springs, stud or ped mount) of the 185's? I have some worked tfs heads i would trade ya + cash!

There's going to be a lot of TF guys coming in here asking to trade their heads for your AFRs...

that alone should tell you what you should do

(not trying to bust your balls yellow)

Plus the afr's ports are polished. I would stick with the afr's and just get a cam to match. Might want to go custom for this app.

ok so im beating myself in the head with every friggin tool in the garage...... if i may say one thing....NEVER BUY A CAR THATS BUILT AND YOU DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. i was told it had a custom grind cam.... but to me it didnt feel like it.... so i yanked the f#@#er out, guess what comp cams extreme energy. 544 lift duration at 212 intake and 218 exhaust. ugh to me the car felt like it was falling on its face off the line and screaming like a raped ape up top. would it really feel that bad down low because it was hot? when i brought the car home the autometer gauge was pegged at 250... yanked the radiator and its shot, it was only cooling the top 2 inches of a single core stock radiator. so i have a be cool on its way. The next time i drove it after i got it home about 20 minutes into i shifted into 2nd and poof nothing but steam coming out of the exhaust. so i towed it home yanked the intake... all four water jackets the gaskets were blown into the intake and exhaust valves... causing water to go into the first and 8th piston, so i yanked the heads took them to napa and had them checked, all is good.... thank god. so i figured i would do a cam while i was in there because i thought the car felt like a stock cam..... which brings me to today when i find out its not. so now here is a list of everything drivetrain wise that i have found......

holley systemax upper and lower
afr 185's with crane cams 1.72 rockers (springs have to be upgraded to 600 lift, just a guess)
comp cams xe cam
75 t/b
80mm mass
24lb injectors
crane cams fireball hi-6 ingnition
aluminum driveshaft
3.73 gears
bbk full length headers
prochamber
magnaflow mufflers
be cool (on the way)
what should i be expecting performance wise? this is my first sn im used to the fox.

looks to be stocker, when i was cleaning up the pistons it seemed like they are aluminum, you know how on the stock piston there four reliefs? well the top right one is bigger then the rest(wider). yes they are afr 185s part #1492 is stamped on them plus i measured the valve... 2" across.
