Heidts MII - Progress + Sway Bar Question

Hey all,

So I have been working on getting my Heidts kit installed as the job/OT allows time. Everythign has been goining smoothy, I'm real impressed with the quality of the kit.

I got the Deluxe kit (tubular A-arms) and I am having an issue with figuring out how to mount the sway bar. The included instructions aren't exactly helpfull for the swaybar. I plan on calling the Shop I got the kit from on Monday to ask about sway bar mounting but I know a few people on here have used the Heidt's kit.

Does anyone have a picture of how the sway bar mounts? I cant figure out if it goes over or under the rack...then there is also issues with the swaybar wanting to hit the coil springs. There were a few other brackets included with the sway bar that I cant really figure out how they incorperate into the mix as well....basicly, a picture of it installed would really really help me figure this out. Anyone?

LUCAFU1 - I was hoping the MII sway bar would nicely use the original sway bar mounting location but it doesn't immediatly appear to do that. the instructions give a measurement from the front of the crossmember to the rear-most sway bar mounting hole and the set of original holes are too close to the cross member by about a half to 3/4 of an inch, I thought maybe this amount of space could be fudged with slop in the mounting brackets but it doesn't look like that is possible.

ashford - You say factory sway bar? I still have my factory sway bar...I hadn't tried using it. I bought the swaybar that Heidts sells specifically for the MII..but either way, it looks like you have the bar routed over the top of the R&P. Are those frame mount locations factory as well? I've never taken a look at what the mount points look like on a falcon, what's in your picture is definately diffrent than my 67 Mustang at least.

I just finished mounting my swaybar. It does not mount to the brackets that are inboard of the frame rails. It mounts ON the frame rail. The measurement given by Heidts was close to the existing rear hole in the frame rail, but was not exact. I had to enlarge the existing holes to install the U-bolts and plates but it worked out fine. Big thing to remember is to not use the brackets inboard of the frame rails. Hope this helps.

i meant stock mII swaybar and crossmember,sorry. falcon suspension is almost identical to the mustang. same contol arm and shocks. shock towers are slightly smaller on a mustang and have different radius rods.

So I appologize for sounding a little dense. You say it mounts on the frame but you enlarged the existing holes?

If it does infact go on the framerail, which is boxed in, do you fish the u bolt up one hole and down the other?

the Heidts swar bar mounts on the frame rails. There were existing holes on my frame rails that almost perfectly matched the measurement given by Heidts forward from the crossmember. I enlarged the holes slightly so the U-bolt would fit, and "yes", fish the U-bolt through one hole into the other, install the steel plates, then bolt on the sway bar bushing/clamp. This was on 66 coupe, yours may be different. Don;t you have the instruction sheet provided by Heidts? Made all this pretty simple. If not, I will copy this evening and fax to you, or I bet Heidts would provide another as well.

That makes sense now. I do have the instructions. They just weren't making sense to me for some reason. I think I understand now. Thanks!
