Hellllp? 65 w a new 200 and a c4

I have been working more off than on for 2 years now on my beautiful 65 stang. I replaced the 170 with a 200 and new c4 tranny. I am really only a darn good parts changer, but I'm learning. Anyway, it was time to set the distributor today and turn over the motor for the first time ever. Now it's locked up after only 1 -2 turns of the flywheel. I think I was looking for TDC and rotating the engine with the tranny in gear as the linkage and driveshaft are still out. Hellllllllp? Man , I've got a lot of time in this thing. I need some old timers to walk me through as I never had this many problems working on chevys.- Mark

There should be no reason a C4 in any gear would lock the engine. Unless there's something wrong with it.

Ok That makes me feel better. But, the starter is not turning the motor over and it is engaging and attempting to. I bumped it a few times trying to find the timing marks. Now, it won't bump at all and the starter and battery are fine.

Pull the access cover on the lower part of the bellhousing and see if the torque converter will move either way.
