I do remember reading something about 1/4 mile times and the 85 gt carbed was actually said to be quicker. Not that all is true but I remember it caught my attention cause it was my first mustang (85gt). It was an article about fastest mustangs and the 85gt was in it maybe the 93 too? but not many foxes for sure. I would like to say the 85 but 8 years of engineering and improvements must give the 93 the advantage. It would not be a blowout anyway and I would bet a good driver in the 85 over a crappy in the 93.
Aside from the fact that the 93 is faster, it looks so much better than the 85. I like the 4 eye'd 85 front, just not the 1/4 windows and the chrome trim.
no chrome trim on an 85 GT. just on the LX models and not even all those that had 5.0's. the chrome was usually most often found on the econo box mustangs of 86 and earlier.

Your biggest difference is the heads and the fact that EFI generally makes a little more torque. If you were to take the same two body styles, let's say both coupes, both 5 speeds and both having the same gear ratios, and do nothing but swap out the E5 heads on the '85 for E7 heads from the '93, you'd essentially have the exact same running engine. The carbed setups are actually a little easier flowing than the EFI stuff, but because the EFI intake has a longer runner length, that's where your higher torque comes from.
Swap out the heads on the '85 to '93 heads and put a 1 inch spacer on it, and the '85 will likely put a tenth or more on the '93. Even though the HP ratings say 210 on the '85 and 205 on the '93, the fact is that they're pretty much the same engine when it all boils down. The only major differences aside from the obvious carb vs. EFI, is the '93 actually has a *slightly* wilder cam (if you can call it wild to begin with) with a tad more lift, and the E7 heads flow more than the E5s. Given that the carb setup flows a tad better than the stock EFI setup...that almost makes up for the head difference.
If you were to compare an '86 with either the '85 or '93, it would be a different story. The '86 had a much different engine....flat top pistons with no valve reliefs and really crappy heads. Because of that, the cam was tuned down with less lift, and the intake was more restrictive than the '87+ intakes (they might look similar on the outside, but the inside was revised in '87) so with all those things combined, the '86s were pretty much turds compared to the '85/'87. That first year of EFI engineering must have been a little rough..lol.
