Okay here's the deal. I have a 95 gt vert. I had a friend who found a "good deal" on a used set of rear gears for my 8.8. I rebuilt the entire rear including bearings, seals, and the trac loc. My friend set the gears up using measurements off the old pinion. Since they were installed the rear has had a low volume howl upon coast and light throttle. shortly after install a vibration has appeared that vibrates through the seat and into the front end. I have put the car up on jack stands and run it in gear. All I can here is a oscillating hum from the driveshaft, the howl from the gears at coast and light throttle, and a clunk when the trans shift gears that sounds like it's coming from the rear. I have checked the ujoints and there is no play but there does seem to be a little play in the tailshaft before it engages in the tranny. My questions are:
1. Can the pinion being out of alignment cause a vibration.
2. Can I use the proform or summitt pinion depth tool to reshim the pinion to the correct depth without knowing where the origional pinion was.
3. I know the driveshaft is out of balance but there was no vibration when the car was on the jack stands. Could the balance cause the vibration under load?
Thanks for you help all!!
